Win 16 Sub System Message?

The following message suddenly appeared on my screen earlier : 'The Win 16 Sub System has insufficient resources to continue running - click ok, close your applications, restart your machine'.

I have never had this message before - can anyone explain what it means please?

Just prior to the message appearing I had downloaded the following software: ACDSee 9 Photo Manager. This may or may not be relevant?

Many thanks.

Maybe your computer does not have enough ram to run the Application.

Ive seen computers do it before,

How much ram do you have in your computer?

If you Dont know,

Right click My Computer
-Propertys

Then Type out what it says down the bottom for us.

There is nothing you can do in XP about this.

What Operating System are you Running?

16-bit applications are handled by what is best described as an emulation layer, which you will see in Task Manager as "wowexec"

(stands for windows on windows).

If the application does not control it's use of memory the wowexec can burst it's banks.

XP limits resources to the wowexec to guard against memory leaks, crappy code or malicious intent.

If you are running anything lower than 2000, then The program will not work

I suspect you are running XP, Correct?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my OS is Windows XP.

Would it have been a particular application that caused the message to appear? As mentioned yesterday, I had just installed ACDSee 9 Photo Manager. The programme put a Device Detector on the task bar. As soon as I closed that, the message disappeared and didn't return. Is it likely to have been that programme that caused the problem?

Win 16 Sub System Message

No, the problem hasn't recurred since I closed the icon in the taskbar for the programme I mentioned I had just downloaded.

Would you recommend uninstalling that programme?

Many thanks for your valued advice. :)

if everything is running smoothly now there is no need to remove that program,if it happens again then remove it and search for a similar program!
