How can you tell if someone is on your network? And what can you do to them or them to you? Are there any programs that do something like this?
Just because you dont have security enabled doesnt mean people are on, especially if you live in a rural area. One way to check is to log onto your router and check the client list, and see if there are any computers listed that arent yours.Does your router have a key?
Like a lot of letters and numbers to get on to?
If not, then you may have someone on your router.
Depending on your router and ISP you can check.
For me, I go to my web browser, and enter the URL in, and it shows me everyone connected.
MAC filtering is a good starting point, but it's so easy to get past that. We learned how to do it in our wireless networking class last year, basically all you need to do is get a packet sniffer and find out the MAC address from a computer thats sending information to the router, then use a MAC address spoofing program to change your MAC address to that of one on the network. We did it in about 30 minutes or so on our first try, pretty interesting stuff.Use MAC Filtering so that only specific laptops, which you specify can get the connection. My friend is a network admin for a school and he has some stuff that monitors that, but it is so expensive.
