7950 or 8800gts/gtx
I heard that the 8800gts/gtx supports dx10 so isn't it a contradict if windows xp does not support dx10 and a 8800gts/gtx is used?

Well a 8800gts will still work under Windows XP and with DX9 games, It will be serious overkill though.
If you have no plans of Vista and DX10 then I recommend the 7950gt:

Is the 7950gt better than 7900gs given that it has a later make? Then what about the x1900 and x1950? Which is the best among these four cards?

7950gt is better than either

Aha, I think you have missed out the 7900gtx. So how would you rate it?

I disagree with you
X1950Pro is better than 7900GS
X1950XT is better than 7950GT
79xx might run cooler and overclock better, but they are not better at stock speeds
However, I strongly recommend 8800GTS 320MB because it is better than any of those video cards

I think the 7 series beats the X1K series when you factor in all the variables. The 79xx runs cooler and generates less heat at stock speeds and its price is around the same as the X19xx. The 79xx clearly beats all its ATi counterparts overall. I would strongly recommend a DX10 card, its just not worth it forking out for an obsolete DX9 one.

Oh come on.
What's the difference between the cards I was mistaken on? A couple FPS? I'm not going to consult benchmarks everytime I have to compare a lineup of cards unless they're are card I'm unfamiliar with.
