Hey guys,

I'm thinking about picking up a new video card within the next month. I've been looking at a EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS. My question is, will my pc be able to handle it? Will I be able to get full potential out of the it?

My specs are below, in my sig.

Thanks alot!

That should be more than enough to handle an 8800GTS. It will even handle an 8800GTX with no problems, I suggest you save up just a little bit more and get the GTX, the GTS is not very good value for money I think.

The Gtx is certainly more powerful, But with the new 9 series coming out in a couple months it's hard to suggest such a pricey card when you can get a much better one for for the same amount of money. :\

The GTX's price will nose dive when the 9 series comes out. I wouldn't recommend buying a top of the range card, because its bound to be overpriced.

GTX is out of my price range. $400 CAD is my budget, this fits in perfect at $410... Should I wait a month, will anything drop?.. I'm guessing the 9 series would be out of my price target?

Thanks for answering my question elite.. Glad to know I will be able to get full potential!

It's unlikely that anything will drop significantly in a month. Hmm, the Gts isn't a bad card IMO, quite the opposite, and I think you should go for it. :D

You have really nice rig, and your current bottleneck is your graphics. Yeah definitely go for a beefier DX10 card, and I would get a bigger monitor too. I still think CRT is the best for gaming, a 21" CRT is really cheap on eBay.

you are in almost same situation that I am in now. get 8800 gts and use sli if you need higher graphics.

Thanks alot guys. Should have the card within a month!

Should I look into better cooling? Would something like this be good enough to help cool the card?

Also, my brother happens to have the exact card I do. I don't know anything about SLI. Would he be able to use both of the cards? I know his motherboard supports SLI. I'm just not sure if the EN7600 GT does or not. If yes, how much of an improvement will he see, if he used mine in SLI?

thanks!

SLI is an improvement of less than double, find out what kind of motherboard he has. Are they the exact same video card?

My brother has an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe

So if I understand, he will get a little bit less than half improvement? So say, 35-40% improvement?

He also has an EN7600 GT.. We bought it from the same store, just months apart. I looked at his to make sure, and everything looks the same as well. The only thing thats different, is the box. Mine has King Kong on it, his had some other animal on it.

My Sister got a 640mb in pc world for herself because i'm getting an 8800ULTRA and she can't afford one hehe. But a 8800GTS 640mb will last you the life time. But do not get a 320mb one

But, i've said this before :P, The 640mb and 320mb perform nearly identical in any game at any resolution, high or not, right now.

You seem adamant in steering people away from the 320mb version, but since they perform so equally in the toughest of Dx9 games, I don't see how there can be much of a difference in dx10 either.

If the price difference were less than $80-100 it be easier to recommend over the 320Mb..

As long as there both 7600GT, and if there not a matched pair put the one with the slowest GPU and memory in the top main slot. As far as performace in SLI with 7600GT, some games have no improvement at all and some they will get close to a single 7900GT. Its kind of a throw up 50/50 thing.

Dang... probably not even worth doing it then

I've been reading up on the 320mb and 640mb versions. Both are the same right, just the ram is different? Would it be worth it to save the money and get the 320mb version? I've heard mixed reviews on this. With buying the 640mb, would it be 'safer' for future games? Or, would 320mb still run future games fine?

going to tigerdirect on the weekend... not really sure which one I should pick up!

thanks guys

In my view, the 320Mb's performance will be on par with the 640Mb in the future.

If the extra 320Mb of VRAM doesn't equal better gameplay in todays games, why will it in tomorrows? VRAM has never been a very big issue and I don't see it becoming one now either.

I could be wrong. DX10 could prove to be a monster RAM eater. I just don't find it likely. :\

In a couple of hours I will show you a game play video of TRLegend in NG with a 320mb a 640mb and 768mb 8800ULTRA.

System requirments for the game
with all options on:

Pentium 4 3.00GHz
1GB
Nvidia 7900GTX 512mb/ATI X1900XTX

Just remember, since its an evga card, you will have the option of stepping up to the 640mb version within 3 months. Make the decision somewhere in that time and earn the money, because we don't really know what will change from now until early december.
