I bought a q6600 today, to replace my e6600. all stock, i did no ocing.

my e6600 idles arount 23-25 celsius core temps, i installed the q6600 and it idles 50+ celsius core temps in my antec 900(lots of airflow) my mouse was jerking around like it does when i run a stress test 100% on my e6600, temps went above 60 under stress

i checked over and over to make sure i had installed in correctly and had all the pins on the stock hs/f pushed down.

I plan on taking it back if i cant figure out what is wrong.
if anyone has any ideas that would be great

antec 900
seasonic 700w
evga 680i
8800gtx
seagate barracuda 320gig
2gig ocz platnuim rev2 pc 6400 800mhz

The quad core is a very hot chip. The stock intel HSF cant handle it that good. Also its 4 cores not 2 so its almost double the problem. Those should be what you get with the stock Cooling.

If it doesnt go over 75 your fine

i know this core gets hot, but why does my mouse skip when i put a little bit of stress on the chip? i cant even run this chip without everything going crazy, like windows popping up and my mouse flying around

Hia mate, have you reinstalled your operating system after installing you q6600? If you haven't i think this is why you're having all the problems like the skipping mouse etc.

About the high temps your best bet is probably to get a better heat sink and fan.

I have a Q6600, and it is indeed hot. It idles at mid-high 50 degrees.
I changed my cpu fan to a Thermaltake V1, it dropped by 10 degrees.
And check your PSU. From E6600 -> Q6600, it's a jump of more than 100 watts. If your PSU goes beyond what it can handle, your computer becomes unstable. BSOD might appear.

im on xp pro with all the updates, my psu has more than enough power to handle a single 8800gtx and a q6600. everything works fine when i put my e6600in
