I just sold my laptop and it had integrated graphics which didn't bother me. I know dedicated graphics are ment for games, but how much does it affect a laptops overall performance? I'm looking at laptops on tiger and I think I may have found the perfect laptop for me, but it has integrated graphics. Here's a link to the laptop I'm interested in http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2989689&sku=G153-MX6961 . I think with the t7200 it wouldn't really matter, but Idk, help me decide.

The max memory a integrated video can use now is 768mb (with the current ones), so yea you'll notice the difference in the performance depending on how much ram is assignated

integrated GPUs leach system RAM and generally suck... they are normally the lowest-end GPU you can get for that model laptop; dedicated cards are normally more powerful. so, thats why i dont like integrated GPUs.

It's important not to have integrated graphics lol, If your using the laptop for email, web browsing..yea don't matter, games/movies/pictures, go dedicated.

just because an integrated graphics solution uses system RAM isnt why it is slow. if you have the option to go with a dedicated card i highly recommend you choose it. even windows vista will run better with a dedicated card.

I have a Vaio i got last week with integrated and i find it great for movies and media centre on vista is a treat with it as does vista aero.It has 1gig ram but im gonna upgrate to the max 2gig Its intel graphics media accelerator 950. Me think it uses 224mb system ram??? I also have the original sims on it and its fine. But if you have integrated graphics that uses somethin like 64mb you would really need to consider as your kind of completly fooked for any kind of proper performance. But long story short. If you want to play recent games,,you really gotta go dedicated.

What? I basically said what you said. That you need to go dedicated for games. And you cant just say integrated " suck" completly. The original poster just asked how it affects overall performance, not specifically games. And I gave my opinoion of my experience with integrated. Although, I am sure your sarcasm was apreciated by all.
