New AMD chips

Does anyone know if AMD is going to be releasing any new chips soon? I've heard of the Barcelona and phenom quad core chips, but will there be any new dual core chips to compete with the c2d's?

x2 6400 is due but that will pretty much mark the end of the line for those then and AMD will move on to the next generation

that battle was already fought and lost, AMD cannot spend money on dual cores while intel moves ahead for good in the CPU race

EDIT: jimmy beat me to it

I gather then that the chances are amd is going to start pumping out quad cores from now on.

The reason I ask is Im thinking of upgrading in jan. and I was wondering if AMD was going to come out with something that was worth while in terms of dual core, but I guess it might be better to get quad core since it seems to be the way things are going.

The Barcelona is to be released next month, but the desktop X4 Agena and X2 Kuma isnt going to be released till late in the year.

I've seen a new chip on eBuyer recently, it was called the BE-2300. And I think AMD will be ploughing the R&D fund into Fusion.

BE-2300 and BE-2350 are just like 3600+ and 4000+ (brisbane), but they have lower power consumption (45W only)

Do you think the X4's will come in an AM2 :P

If so, I'm glad I only invested in the 3800+ X2 :D

Yes both the X4 Agena and X2 Kuma will fit a AM2 board, but it will run on the Hypertransport speed of the AM2 board and you wont be able to set the voltage and MHZ separately for each core on a AM2 board, but other than that they should run fine, the board maker has to have a bios update too

'Socket AM2+'? What's the '+' for? My manuals don't shot a + after AM2

Also, I like the specs on that 7100+ (2.4GHz, 4x512/L2C, 89w, 1800HT Speed).

Wait, we're in Q3 right now, where are these processors?!

AM2+ boards will have faster Hypertransport speeds, i think the new PCIe specs. and you can control the MHZ and voltage on each core.

The Barcelona server core comes out next month, the desktop Agena X4 and Kuma X2 does not come out till Nov. or Dec.
