Start a thread on different builds for people?

Since so many people come in here asking us to look at the system builds they want to put together, maybe we should start a thread about different system builds.

1 for a cheaper gaming rig, 1 for a mid range rig and so forth.

Everyone pick your favorite motherboards, video cards and so on for each level of build. We can then pick the top 5 parts out of each category and do a vote on it with a final build price from newegg.

Then add a sticky and refer everyone to the sticky's for our forum picks.

What do you think?

Moderators, what do you think?

I think this could be a great idea but the sticky would be have to be updated with technology releases.

Intelcrazy had a couple very nice medium-priced build, I think he was attempting something similar to this but I don't know where it went.

For an $1k (or close) build you could fit a

Q6600- $300
8800Gts- $300
Asus pn5/P35 Ds3- $100, give or take
250Gb HDD- $60
case and new PSU- $100
Optical drive- $25
2Gb Ram- $100
OEM copy of Vist- How much ever that costs

Without a monitor of course, but parts could be trimmed to fit one.

I think leaving monitors out of the picks is a good idea, most people want to view those in person and it can be a very personal choice. Also leave out what OS to use. But assume that it is Vista 32.

But I think we need the moderators views on a thread like this, since only they can do sticky's

Agreed, I've heard they can be very stingy on things like this though. Maybe if we bugged them enough they'll cave and agree to it. :)

Not all sticky's are updated by mods. A mod just have to approve it to be stickied and one of the users has to take responisibility for posting the thread and keeping it updated.

Sounds pretty easy, but I've seen quite a few stickable threads in the past go completely ignored by the mods. Even when people were clamoring over it saying that it deserved a sticky. :\

But this is a great idea. I'm fairly confident we can get it to happen. :)

It is right there... :P

Even more than you wished. Yes, it might deserve an update, but I'm sure Praetor will get around to it sometime in the future

Why don't we just delete his and start our own? :P

Cause you are right it does deserve an update. And if he's to busy to do it, I don't see why we can't make our own. It would be easier on the more active members, seeing as how many "build me a computer" threads come up.

If the mods agree about doing this, Either someone that has alot more time here than I do can do it, or I would be willing to do it.

Don't matter to me, I just think it would be a good idea. Since I started coming to this board I have seen probably 20 threads about people asking what they should build. And we have tried to answer every one of them. And most of the time it was the same parts suggested, depending on the budget.

You know I did not even know that link was there. It's not named very intuitively. Maybe change the name of it to Suggested builds with prices, or something like that.

But it is a very comprehensive listing and very well done. Though I do not agree with some of the parts listed. But everyone has their own prefrences.

We should start pointing people to that link.
