HD 1920x1080 resolution, what graphics card?

Hi everyone, hopefully you can give me the answers i need

here is the setup i want:

I am going to be buying a new gaming rig, and a 24 inch monitor (1920x1080), then i will be getting a blu-ray burner and i want to watch the high definition blu -ray movies on my computer..

i just read that the nvidia 8800 cards do not support high definition content at that resolution because of HDCP or something? I do not want to get an ATI card.

am i wrong here? or should i wait for nvidia to release a new card..

Afaik 8800's support HDCP.

The most important question is your budget. You can get a GTX for around $500, and a Gts for around $300. Alternatively you can get a HD 2900xt for around $400
 
First HDTV is more than just a high resolution, your monitor has to support HDTV in order to view it.

The 8800 series is HDCP and can render HD, although ATI has been known as the better company for these types of features.

I play movies I d/l at 1080i on my computer that is connected to my 37 inch LCD which is capable of 1080i and 720p. You do not need blu-ray or HD-DVD to do this.

I would recommend ATI in this instance whole heartedly, if you wanted a high end gaming machine as well I would recommend an 8800gtx or ultra, however for the money the 2900xt has unparalleled features and support for the functions you listed and has more than enough power for modern gaming.

get definently a ati 2900xt, for video quality and features like that they are way better then 8800gts, while nvidia is more about preformance, the 2900xt i think is a bit faster to, i would get the ati 2900 for ur needs

I know but even with video quality u need to have a lot of memory to have a good quality, i think, i dont know this much about image quality, so u might be right.

Uh-uh, Video doesn't really benefit from video cards, or video memory. It's not being rendered onto the screen, it's simply being drawn. There are no textures or computations to be done.
