Cheapie USB flash drives?

Newbie question here: I've seen some USB memory (flash?) drives on sale for $20 or so, when most of the big name brands are selling for much more. Are the cheapies any good, or is this a "buyer beware" situation?

well what size usb drive are you looking for because now you can get them in a ton of different sizes. (my 512 used to seem so big lol)

Check Walmart. I think they had some 1GB drives for around $20... I know dad got me a 512MB that was $14

There are some 1GB drives going for $10 and a 2GB for $20 or so at OfficeMax. And Circuit city has a 4GB going for $34.99. And it's a really nice one too.

Oops, forgot to mention the size. The 2 Gig drives range from $78 down to $20. Anyone got experience with the cheapies?

most likely, the only difference about the cheap ones is that they may be more susceptible to static electricity due to cheap enclosure. I hate the cheap PNY sticks cause the cases fall apart.

I got a U3 cruzer for $20 on sale from $40

If you get a chance to get a U3, get one, I really like mine

my 2GB corsair with the rubber "boot" around the case has really taken drops without incident!!!
