my friend doesnt know diddly about computers and myself i havent been paying much attention to the hardware. so this is what i want in it

AMD CPU
8800 GTS
2 Gbs of RAM
250 Gb HDD
MOBO with alot of PCI slots
PSU
CASE- maybe ????

You're asking almost impossible, the total would be near 570$ or so just for video, ram, cpu, mobo leaving aside the psu and case, try telling your friend to downgrade the video card and maybe then maybe it'll fit

Agreed, its impossible to put a system like that together for $600. What else can you go for?

This is the best I could work on that budget, and it still goes over.. add shipping and an OS to that.. your friend could run Linux, and save up for a higher end mobo and a copy of Windows.

I've used the mobo listed below, it's a nice board.. low-end, but it'll do the job.

With the rebates, and before shipping, it comes to just a hair over $600.

If you can up the budget to $800, I'd suggest replacing that mobo I listed with this

800 dollars can get you a decent machine... you shouldn't skimp out on the mobo like that so i'd recommend uping your budget or not getting an 8800gts

WOW thanks guys, ill take a look and reconsider,

Are you referring to this mobo I posted? If so, I don't see how you can say 'skimp out' regarding that particular model.. it's a great mobo, especially for the price.

Not to mention, it's exactly what they asked for.. a good mobo with a lot of PCI slots.. + PCIe x4 and x16.

Again, it's a great board.. I see no reason to move up to another board, or to pickup an intel setup (as stated in an above reply).

i was referring to the one you posted in the screen shot of the shopping cart for 45 bucks... that gigabyte board is fine... especially for that price. i like amd's too but if you want a rig that will last you a few years you should really try to up your budget a little
