random freezes after re-installation of Vista Basic

I did a fresh recovery (re-install) of Vista Basic on my PC.. it had Vista Basic before, so there shouldn't be any conflicts between the OS and hardware..

I've updated drivers for everything.. and it randomly freezes.. I can open the DVD drive, I can insert a card in the card reader and the light comes on but the OS is unresponsive.

I end up having to pull the plug and reboot the PC, then it's back to normal.

The freezes are very random, they've all happened at different times.. there is no pattern.

Any suggestions? I've changed hardware today, but the freezes started last night when I re-installed Vista Basic.

I'm thinking either you ened to haev some patience or the drivers are corrupted. You sure all the drivers are Vista supported?

The drivers are all automatically downloaded by Vista, so they should be supported.

As for having patience, how exactly does that apply to this situation?

EDIT: Each time it freezes, I sit here for a few minutes before pulling the plug..

Check all your Plugs

Make sure their firmly Plugged in.

Your GPU and Ram Mainly.

I have seen both these Freeze up systems.

Hi makmillion,

Did you change anything on your hardware? It is possible that your PSU can't handle it anymore. So, my suggestion is that you put some hardware out of your pc. Put everything out, and let the GPU and HD in it and try if it freezes.

Umm... Not always the smartest thing to do. The drivers that load with vista, or that vista downloads are not always the latest drivers, or the correct drivers. You should always download the newest drivers from whatever manufacture made your part.

I almost never let windows decide on what drivers to load.

I have a pre-built PC, hunting down drivers for optical drives that have no model number listed is going to be impossible.

As for everything else, the last half an hour was dedicated to hunting down OE drivers... everything is up to date. :)

Hi makmillion,

I see u didn't answer my question, so I assume that it didn't work. Anyway, let's continue then.

What's your PSU? I need the brand, type, etc...
