RAM test

Hi,

First, thanks for the great website, lots of helpful individuals!!!

The problem I am having is that my computer will reboot on its own. I have replaced the HD, MB, and graphics card. My specs in signature are up to date.

I am wondering what free downloadable testing software people use to test the RAM making sure it is working correctly, or what else people do to resolve this type of issue?

Thanks,

Thanks, just one follow up....

I want to put the ISO on a disk, but I am unsure how to burn it so it can read it properly. Is there a trick to copying an iso file to a blank cd, or do I just use "make data disk" and thats it?

Thanks!

Yeah, I use a program called infra recorder to burn ISOs. :)

UGH....

Okay, I have no idea what is going on. I have not done the RAM test, basically because I can't at this point.

WHERE I AM:

I was initially at the desktop because I wanted to reload windows XP Home through the reset of the computer, no luck so it went to the desktop. Then I opened my computer and double clicked cd drive and it opened up asking if I wanted to reinstall, so I said yes but I have never done it "in windows", so it did a little something, then restarted and now I am having issues....

Basically, I cannot get to the desktop or to the windows setup. I can hit reset, but then it loads the standard screen (i can get into bios), and then since the XP CD is in the drive, it says loading from CD/hit any key to run from CD. So then it says "restarting windows installation....", and then it shows the XP logo as if it was going to the desktop, and then the screen flashes, I get a cursor (large as if it reset everything), and I cannot get to any type of screen, neither the windows setup or the desktop.

I CAN go into bios and everything is "fine", but I dont understand what happened or what I need to do now....

Please help

Memtest86 doesnt ask you to press anything. You pop it in and restart. It will automatically load. If you have not gotten an BSOD yet I seriously doubt that its an RAM issue.

I know that it is suppose to run, but I wanted to reinstall XP for a separate reason. That being said, what would be causing me to not be able to reach the desktop or the XP setup? Not sure what useful the bios is if it shows the XP logo, but then stops there after showing installation starting again but standing still....

Thanks!

If your re-partitioned or reformatted it it will not let you to reach the desktop.. because you deleted everything...

I got to the part where it asked me about deleting the partition, but then when I wanted to it said it couldnt because there is already an operating system on that. Usually, it just warns me and I choose okay. But since this was initiated from the desktop instead of rebooting, it did not.

How do I get it to actually install it, rather than hang on "restarting installing.....".

Thanks much,
