A Dissertation Survey(AMD/Intel)

Hey there everyone, I know alot of people don't like doing surveys but hopefully you will feel like indulging me in this one, I am currently writing my Masters of Science Dissertation concerning consumer purchasing behavior when it comes to Laptop's and PC's, spent a week trialling and now running this survey, I need as many people as possible to take, it only takes about 4 min long eventhough it says 18 pages on the bottom. So if you have the time and can pass it on to anyone, I would appreciate it, thank you

You are right about that, but the one thing I am trying to do is not focus on the hardware side of the issue as most polls and magazines do. I am looking to figure out what the average consumer see's, do they even consider the battle or is it just a matter of the price tag

you're asking the wrong people. we know all the best bang for buck and most of us dont care about brands as long as it works and as long as "graphic card a" is better than "graphic card b"

ask people walking into bestbuy, future shop, source, w/e

"We" Is too general a term. I know many, many fanboys that frequent this site. Lol, some even put their preference in their name.. Not naming names here. :D

BTW I use the word "fanboys" in the most loving way... ;)

fanboys screw themselves out of their hard earned money by thinking they make a difference to a multi-billion dollar industry.

good luck fanboys:D

Hey guys, thanks to those who was responded already, you are right, fanboys are pretty much the wrong audience since they are the ones who look at the benchmarks, overclock, evaluate the details.... but I would like to get some of them as part of my respondents

Let me reiterate my thanks again guys, it is much appreciated, will publish the results within this thread just for curiosities purpose once I am done, collecting data till the end of the sunday, will commence analysis from monday

ill take the survey, ive also done some research and study academically, so I know how it is, good luck man!!

BTW, im an AMD "fanboy"

BTW crianp,

http://www.computerforum.com/93496-general-info-my-ongoing-amd-quadfx-setup.html

I have explained in detail what i chose and why based on research I did in forums, mag articles, internet articles etc.

In there is a great debate as to why one should go AMD or intel, (especially given the dollars being spent here).

I suppose when it comes down to it, (prob the majority) look at it in logical terms - either power per dollar spent or power versus competitor,

then there are some who look at it from a technological/egineering stand point or similar (correct me here if you think im wrong).

They like AMD cause of the cleaner design and engineering principle (eg faster core speed doesnt necessarily give you faster processors), or Intel for the use of a simple idea - two dual core processors on one dye, to "makel the quad core" (and yes we all know the benefits of that)

Lastly, theres the rebel who goes for the underdog. These groups of ppl arent restriced to that group only, and they certainly dont have to stay in it either. I suppoose it makes more sense if you want to go for AMD for the last two reasons in a high end pc for example!

Intel Is currently pursuing AMD bag. The reason More clock speed doesn't always equal the better chip is because of the IPC rate and pipeline length. Intel sees the reason behind this and has taken up with it as well.

Goodpoint there Hermes, eventhough I think I only understood 50% of what you said, now that I think about it, I could definently use that point in my writing

Lol, IPC: Instructions per clock. It's like DDR, double data rate, It is much more economical than what Intel was attempting with Netburst, Pure speed.

Pipelines are the tubes with which data travels. Obviously reducing length of these constructs will in turn reduce downtime.

There are probably a couple more reasons/explanations. I'd hit up the Wiki if I were you. Just don't quote anything, you might get in trouble. ;)

yes thats true hermes, and Im glad - for the betterment of technology.

Regarding crianp's study however, I think I It would be worthy to state (in my opinion and from personal experience) that many of AMD's "fanboys" were originally "lured" to AMD for that reason! (the thinking "out of the box" or whatever u want to call it)

I can only make this statement through my own personal experience with friends
