Overclocking 7900GS

How long does Ati tool usually take? Another question: Why does it say my memory is 660mhz? Shouldn't it be 1320?

What do you mean how long does ATItool take? I don't know about your memory. ATI Tool is program that let's you step up your core and memory frequency little by little and scan for artifacts so you know when your card has reached it's limits.

How long does it take to scan for artifacts? The automatic option has been going for almost two hours now and that is only the core clock so I still have to do the memory.

Well, I think I'll do that. So would you just reccommend going as high as I can without the white dots? Right now it is running 552(factory at 450).

I don't like it. I've known ATI tool can be used for Nvidia cards, but haven't gotten around to downloading it until I saw this thread.

POS crashes my system if I let it scan for artifacts longer than a minute. Or If I let it test for highest stable clock.

It could be that it's my system with the problem, but I'd rather blame the app. Hmph.

Going as high as you can without errors is pretty much the point of overclocking isn't it?

The only problem I've had is letting it find my fastest mem. That made my pc crash. It's best to OC like you would a cpu, little by little.

Mine's scanned now for over an hour without an error. Will it scan until you stop it?

Yes.
