I've recently purchased a new car which you can view here:

(Don't be afraid to sign up and share images/videos of your pets, it's a good community! ;p )

I plan on purchasing one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813181020

and go from there.

If all goes well perhaps I can talk to the Chipfast.com owners and expand them into this... :x

Questions...

How good will PC Audio sound in a car?

Which sound card should I get?

um, that's it for now. I'll keep you all updated.

First off, thats a sweet car!

Second, for building mini PC's I wouldn't recommend newegg, I would recommend www.mp3car.com They have a much larger variety of mini PC parts, as well as pre-made enclosures for use in a car.

There are a few people i've seen with computers in their car which they use with a double-din touch screen dash monitor, and it's pretty cool. I've seen people use it for GPS, audio system, picking up WiFi around town, as well as other things.

Secondly, Dodge is a terrible manufactuer. This is going to be a cool project and I look foward to see the results. Also congrats on the new car purchase and pray it doesn't break.

I have a Dodge Dakota 2001, I have never had 1 problem with it since I bought it. It has been a fabulous vehicle. It has been more reliable than my last vehicle, which was a camaro. That was the worst car I ever owned. I put 120,000 miles on it and I had to have the heads redone twice, radiator replaced 3 times, water pump replaced 4 times, harmonic balancer replaced once, Transmission rebuilt once, blown rear end seals replaced, all new brake lines. And that's just what I can remember. It was in the shop more than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

I used to be a chevy man, all I have ever owned was chevy's (6 since I turned 16, now im 47), now I hate chevy with a passion. I am not saying Dodge is the best, just that they are more dependable than chevy now a days. Plus Dodge/ chrysler has better looking vehicles. Ford and chevy are just plain boxes (except for the mustang, gotta love the new mustang)

The Chrysler 300 is an awesome looking vehicle!

Haha....you make me laugh, I had a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel Quad Cab. Never had a problem, that thing had power, too. I had it up 35x18's

What about them? High priced yuppy mobiles if you ask me. Are they nice? Sure, are they worth the money? I don't think so. My wife has a 02 camry lxe. It's a nice car, very reliable and gets good gas mileage. But would I own one for myself? Nope!

But I would own a toyota over a lexus anyday. Lexus, BMW, Porsche are all way to overpriced for what you get.

mmmm ok.

Ya it's a great car and thanks all and yes I knew about the mp3 site but thank you very much all the same. :)

This will take some research....

Any help would be nice.

We plan on taking the spare out of the wheel well, it's all nicely carpeted, and use that for the sub amp housing, nice and flush. You'll see.

What if I get a flat?!?! I have insurance and a cell phone, I'm as covered as I can be .(other than having a tire and a jack ;p)

Thanks, there are better micro boards on the mp3 site!

This will be a linux car.

Wireless is a must. Sound is the main thing here....

The only thing bad about a dodge is the transmissions,

They do have the meanist looking cars and trucks the
magnum and chargers are sick, I want one.

Ok, back to the subject.

So you want to use this pc as a music server for the car?

Umm.... You ever heard of a Ipod? The Ipod hooks directly up to a cars head unit and would sound 100% better than a music server pc. Onboard sound on a highend system would suck, also, you are looking at all kinds of electrical interference from everything on the car, alternator, spark plugs, you name it.

If all you want this for is music, then I would not bother.

Get either an Ipod or a head unit with a usb port and use a usb key with a few gigs of storage. It would be much cheaper, and you would be out a lot less money when it (the pc) eventually gets stolen.

If you want GPS then get a head unit that has GPS and a USB port installed in it.

I really do not understand why people want a computer in the car, when while they are driving they can't use it anyways.

I would recommend this instead of a pc in your car.

Alpine IVA-D100
In-dash DVD player with 6.5" video screen

Then add this option to it, it's a bit expensive, but doing it the way you want would cost about the same if you add in modification to the car, parts and everything else.

Alpine NVE-N872A
In-car navigation system

It will have cleaner sound and look a lot better than hacking up the inside of your car to do what you want.

its not a bad idea, It would be cool to have the pc in the back then hooked up to a 7-10" monitor in the front.

I have been tossing around the idea of doing this also. But I can't justify it. I would only use it for GPS and picking up free wifi. My music is on my ipod, and I already have a kick-a sound system in my car.

But it takes a lot of planning. For starters how big is your current CD deck? Probably not a double DIN. The best way to do it is the right way. Which you would take off the panel and then custom fiberglass it to fit you LCD monitor. That would be the hardest part for me. Also if you are going to have enough power from your car battery to power the pc.

It would be sweet to pull it off though. A lot of work, but sweet. Plus I would not want my car sitting in the school parking lot with a computer and monitor in there, you should probably get a security system if you get this also.

Good luck!

Honda VTEC engines have a very good reputation for never breaking down, 15,000,000 units and not one reported engine failure.

My dads rover 600 had a Honda engine in it instead of the the rover one and it was very reliable.

anyway sorry to hijack your post xenium :o

I might get a Charger, hopefully something like this, black rims, I like the Silver and Black, needs a billet grille and some 'limo tint'. I would like to have a Hemi, but I need gas mileage:( My Jeep only gets 15Mpg so, maybe this with a V6 will get a little better mileage.

Dodges are sweet, don't feel bad OP, I am a Mopar fan.
