This is for my mom's sake... Her computer:

Compaq Prebuilt:

Intel Celeron @ 2.4GHz w/ stock cooler (I added AS5 a few months ago)
DDR266 256MB
80GB IDE HDD
Quad speed cd drive
Stock Case
250W PSU ( 12V+ @ 11A <I think>)

I am currently building her computer... feel free to give an suggestion..

Current planning: 1GB DDR400, E2140...

Lucky find lol :D Yeah.. gonna use the current case... (has one exhaust vent -_-... lame...)

If I can find how to get the IO backplate out... DEFINITELY an new HDD... her's has an 2/4MB cache?

Thanks... :D I liked it too... amazed it fit into my budget...

Because other people's opinions can always help :D Like yours :D

Heres another option, the AMD cpu outperforms (in most benchmarks) the E2140. It also has DDR2 667 and an 160GB HD.

Check the HT links on the CPU and MOBO and make sure they are compatible, maybe others can pitch in on that.

Wondering if integrated budget will do ? :D

Instead of an Ultra?! Shame...

Hehe, yeah it would. Not much difference if she's not a gamer. ;)

Edit: Build above looks good too, Motherboard and CPU match. Name brand RAM and HDD But TBH It wouldn't make much of a difference, capacity of HDD is a plus.. Cpu is alittle stronger but I'm not sure the difference would actualy be noticeable. It's cheaper though.

it wont be very fast without a psu. jk tho

the core2 takes up allot less juice, you could probably get away with a high quality low wattage psu
