Dual monitor help

ADHD

I recently purchased a new laptop Hard drive (since the old one was broken) and put windows xp media center (SP 2) on it. When I connect an external monitor, i have to restart and then it boots up with both monitors showing the same exact thing. I went into where you set the monitors up, and it acts as if there wasnt a 2nd monitor at all.

I know my laptop can handle it; before i replaced the HD it worked dual monitors just fine.

I might need to install drivers or something. I don't know... please provide links for drivers and stuff.

Please help! :(

We can't provide links to drivers without knowing what laptop/GPU you have. My guess is you simply are using the built-in drivers. Find the make of your card and download the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

I just tried seeing what graphics card i have; it just looks like a big yellow question mark with a little exclamation mark next to it. It's name is "Video Controler".

I tried looking online to see my computer specs, but i found nothing. My laptop is a 4542GP gateway notebook.

I think those external ports were only for the clone view... You use it if your LCD is down or cracked...

As he said, he used them as duel view in the past. Besides, it all depends on the laptop. Mine, with a crappy SIS GPU/Chipset even supports duel view!

That doesn't say it, but i found something that says it has Intel extreme graphics 2.

Not to sound like an ass, but I'm not going to hold your hand and do everything for you... The link I posted says it's for your laptop, and under drivers there are two "Video downloads". And now that you seem to know the chipset, you could easily find other drivers elsewhere.
