Hi,

How higher you go with the capacity of your HDD, how higher the chances are for crashes. So I would also recommend 2x 500GB, but if you really want to have an Extern, then it's fine :)

Thats not true, the higher the capacity theres actually less of a chance for a crash because the data is more spread out. Now having two or more hard drives increases those chances a lot.

even more so if you raid them ;) which is rarely needed on home setups.
2 * 500gbs works out cheaper in this case and would be my choice also. It depends on future expansion options

I actually don't have RAID setup right now, I ran into too many problems with it so I just use them as dual drives.
