ATI HD2600 card

Power Colour HD2600XT (256mb)

How does something like that match up to its Nvidia counterpart (Counter parts based on price include the 7600GT, and the 8500GT) And its ATI counterparts?

I'd love input. On paper the HD2600XT is a pretty sweet card with 256mb of GDDR4 VRAM at 1400MHz, and a clock speed of 800MHz. I'm just wondering what your opinions are.
 
I agree with RoBBy

Don't be fooled by the spec. If you look at spec you would think that HD2600 is better, but thats not true because 8600 series outperforms it in gaming.
 
The nVidia cards are also smaller, they're only about 6-7 inches long while that thing looks to be about closer to 10 inches. That means a lot of heat and that means a lot of power would be needed.

Nope, I'll go for the ATI. The 2600 has better scores then the 8600GT. That's because ATI is better at multimedia stuff, and it does most of the job so that the CPU won't be having any trouble with multimedia. So, what I am trying to say is this; When you open a movie with the 8600GT your cpu will be at about 20%, but with the ATI it will around 10% or lower

the hd's also have hdmi output, which includes sound, which is a pretty sweet feature.

i'd suggest the ati for HTPC or the nvidia for anything else
 
yeah what u wanna do with this card?

Also did u look at benchmark dude? the 8600 is higher in the list than the 2600.

Almost every computer has good multimedia capability now, I really can't notice at difference when I watch a movie on my old X1300 or on my new 8800GTX. I can tell a little difference between onboard and 8800GTX. Multimedia has became a norm....

DVI-HDMI cable....Problem solved...

untrue, you've still got sound to worry about.

hdmi is 8 discrete digital channel audio, unlike ac3 which is 2-channel pcm unless encoded in ac-3 (like a dvd) and therefore is unable to transmit surround sound in games.

Your only other option is to use the analog 8 channel outputs from the sound card, which already have headphone amplifiers in them, and raise the noisefloor to unnacceptable level once amplified again.

For digitally broadcast in-game sound, the ati presents the first solution yet.

thats why i hooked up my ati setup to the monitor that has hdmi input :D
 
To the original poster. It is a great budget card, you will be happy. It has all the latest features and can keep pace with todays modern games and supports dx10.
