Antec 900 good case ?

its a very nice mid tower case. But for me its not a good case for my rig, new hardware is keep getting bigger and bigger. Eventurally full tower might be the new stander for computer cases.

i have it and i got lots of big hardware its still good for me ? :D and yes i have next to my bed LOL!

I grabbed one fast when FRYs was mentioned on one thread having a good sale on them. Where a few missed that 4th of July sale then another was seen with an additional $10- mark down just about a week ago. When the board for the new build sees a replacement I will again enjoy a "super quiet" case over the current AeroCool model for the present build.

The new board quit after 3days of "quiet" when the 900 first saw life last week. The positioning of the board and supply is one thing to note here. Most cases always see the supply at the top and board beneath that. Even with a top fan warm air has a tendency to linger at the top. With the Antec the rear 120 is only a few inches away from the large 200mm fan at the top center. There's no more warm air to be found. :D

The supply is turned upside down with the bottom fan even with more one then facing upward with the bottom 120mm front fan facing it. It catches the cross breese of cooler air brought in for it's own cooling. Those front fans do serve mainly for keeping your drives cool however. Thumb screws are used to hold the two 3 drive bays inplace which will easily slide out forward for adding/changing/removing drives there.

i would of like it more if it had the clear side pane andi if it was cheaper , but i like my ULTRA eTorque :)

The one thing to add about the Antec model is the simple snap in place way to mount a 120mm fan on the side cover there. You can one facing in or out depending on preference without the need for a screwdriver and fasteners. The fan simply is pressed into place on plastic pins and held by large retaining clips.

The thing about the Antec to look at the most is not the internal viewing to see neon strips added or the led on a cpu fan but the effective air cooling. With the new build here a 125w AMD 6000+ X2 model cpu was seeing far lower temps on the AM2 board there then the average 33-36C with the single core 3500+ on the 939 in use temporarily. Try as low as 22-26C ilde and even the board saw lower temps then the 31-33C average for the 939 build.

That case was first seen last year just after having ordered the AeroCool model for about half the retail price. With the recent sale it was a must have for air cooling while some go for a full tower to use liquid cooling needing the extra space for the tanks. No leaks seen with air cooling however.

there's two versions of antec 900 one with rear vent and one replaces rear vent with two water tube openings. :)

You might as well have the water tube openings even if your not going to use them. At least it's there if need be.;) And it's not like the vent is doing anything.

The difference besides the obvious lack of visibility of cooling on the P180b model and the door to hide the drive bays is the amount of air flow seen with the 900. The reason for this is that it's a gaming case where people press hardwares and cooling is more critical. The P180b is a stylish case for the non or occasional gamer with a more formal look to it. I'm sure there's a 120 stuffed down in the front somewhere for air flow. The drive cages come out from the side on that one while they slide forward on the 900 model.
