Re-Installing XP Problem

Howdy again people.

Well my computer has been running really poorly recently so I decided to format and re-install XP.

So I re-installed windows and deleted my partition because I wanted to merge the drive instead of having 2 seperate ones.

But when I got back into Windows, the partition was still the same size, and the other one didn't merge and wasn't shown.

Also all the information was still on that partition, so I used KillDisk to 100% wipe the hard drive, because it was suggested multiple times on this forum.

So I re-booted with the XP CD in my CD Drive hoping that I could install everything from scratch.

And it won't boot from the CD and it says 'Cannot Detect Operating System' or something like that.

So my question to you is, how can I install XP from the BIOS menu or whatever it's called, and how do I merge a previously seperated partition during the XP instillation?

I think the problem came when you re-installed XP, instead of checking for the easiest thing first (use Disk management) you used killdisk and probably something went wrong in the process.

And it won't boot from the CD
did you check the Bios, probably the Boot order has changed, check again ,cd-rom first

how can I install XP from the BIOS menu
hmm..never heard of XP installation through Bios, ive heard of network but i dunno any Bios ways. :(

its not really merging as such , when you're prompted on which partition to install, highlight the other one and press "D" i think it will ask you if you want to delete it, and then i think you press "L" or sumthing similar. but you get the point, do this on all partition you have

cheers

I did change the boot order to my CD Drive, but it says something like 'Enter a valid something or other' Not exactly sure sorry.

But I think I need to make a boot disk and start the instillation via that.

Looks like I will be without my computer for a while, but hopefully it will run a little better when I fix it, until I manage to get my new super computer. :P

well the windows is a boot disk so that is how you install it. also is there a option to slect where to boot to. ie f1-12 on some computers gets you to a place where you can boot to a drive you slect.

Can't you flat install windows or something installing it from other system and then putting it back... Please current me if I am wrong. Ummm formatting the hard drive again? I know nubby suggestion jsut helping with what I can think of and yea of course booting CD drive first...
