Hey all, well I though I could share a little tip that maybe some of you already use :D.

Download and install CCLeaner

Before turning off your computer:
  • Go to CCleaner
  • Do a registry scan
  • Fix the problems
  • Go to cleaner
  • Analize
  • Clean by clicking on Run Cleaner
  • Turn off your computer

If you do this right before turning off your computer, you will have a faster login the next time you turn on your computer.

Tested by myself :P

Any good registry cleaner will remove now useless entries still trying to load drivers no longer used tieing things up a little. You just found that a cleanup removed some clutter and then saw less items actually trying to load. Besides a cleaner reducing items seen in the startup group of the msconfig utility and defragging any heavily fragmented drive will also see performance improvements.

I did not quite understand your post... :S

No I did not just found, I've been doing this for almost a year...

Something you saw installed or removed probably saw a reg problem corrected then. When using any cleaner it depends on just what the cleaner finds. You can have several useless entries that do absolutely nothing but add clutter or simply have one or two that can stall Windows by clashing with programs and drivers sets installed.

Those would be startups trying to load drivers for no program or device clashing with a current set for let's say a newer video card used as an upgrade. The reduction of one bad startup item can also free up memory allowing Windows to load faster with one less item to see loaded. Softwares and Windows alike can be involved at times with hidden bugs in the system registry.

I did not say it would clean Everything, I say it will make it faster. Just sharing a tip...

Tested .... Thanks for sharing , It worked good and I noticed a difference , it is faster login indeed.

CCleaner also clears up a good number of useless temp folders that take up space on the drive as well as cleaning out your browser history and offline content when left checked. After a period of time any system can suffer slow downs from accumilation of now useless invalid entries where a good cleanup will see a faster boot and login as well as the occasional improvement in perfdrmance for Windows.

This is what CCleaner does...

PC eye, your initial comments in post#2 were condersending, nasty, and uncalled for. webbenji's was suggesting a reasonably common known method of decluttering the reg, he wasnt suggesting he'd reinveted the wheel. Your be-littling of his post/comment is not appreciated. Just because you knew of the application already does not make the tip any less valid.

webbenji thank you for your contribution. I was aware of this application are have used in spyware cleans before. But not for a while. I may run it on this work laptop and see what happens :)

No problem, I knew some of view must know about this, just though I'll share it for new members :P.

I'm always glad to help :D

It could also work on your speed if you do it daily before going to bed ( you got o bed right ? :P)

no, not really; most days i usually only get like 3-4 hrs of sleep/nap. then on friday usually i'll actually get sleep from like 3pm to 8 am saturday. i don't turn my computer off because i'm always download something.

Yeah I just read about this nifty program shortly before this post somewhere else on this forum. Glad I did.

You should look at what you are posting! There was nothing degrading posted about the tip on CCleaner but simply an explaination where that or another registry program can be beneficial.

It's a good cleanup tool with a registry cleaner included. One thing most never realize is just how much garbage lingers on both the drive and in the system registry itself. webbenji learned a good lesson there by seeing a faster startup once the registry saw a good cleaning.

One most commonly seen problem where people think a virus or spyware is causing a system to slowdown is simply now useless registry entries loadin drivers from folders still remaining into memory long after the main program is gone. This can also cause conflicts with other programs at times.
