Thinking of building this...

I am not going for the ultimate setup or anything so bear in mind that...mainly for gaming

MB: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 640 Prescott 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775
Ram: CORSAIR 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) X2 (2gb)
Graphics card: EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI
Power supply: 650w (is that sufficient or would I need/get away with smaller?)

All the other stuff..sound card/fans/hard drives/cd-rom drives Ill just pick myself.

How does this system sound? Could anything be better without costing me a lot more money? Is anything here a real POS?

If you can't get one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115013 E4300: $122
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115014 E4400: $126

Then get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116036 E2160: $86

You do NOT want to get anything that says "Pentium 4" or "Pentium D" or "Celeron". You'll kick yourself.

EDIT: Also, about the power supply. What model is it? You don't want to get a cheap power supply. For a good 600 watt power supply, you should be spending in the range of $75-$125. That being said, you only need a 450-500 watt one, which will only be around $50.

yeah, get the dual core CPU as Jet suggested because in your current configuration, the CPU will bottleneck the whole system and you will get depressed eventually :D
so save yourself the agony and take the dual core...

btw, what is your budget like? some of us here could help you with a build if you provide us with the budget and a little bit more info...

cheers

I would like not to go over 800 if possible. I would like to play HL2, Quake4, doom 3 etc without hassle...I want to get back into FPS CS/Halo3...and I want to buy that Age of Conan game when it comes out. Other then the CPU how does the rest sound...I dont mind spending the extra 40 or so on the duo. I am shopping from newegg by the way...and I know not to cheap out on the PS.

My suggestion..

These other guys are suggesting these cheap Apevia cases and with no OS... The Apevia cases are flimsy, I have built with a few of these Centurion 5's and they are pretty tough little minions.

This is future-ready, you can upgrade to the 1333Mhz FSB CPU's, it is SLI ready, GREAT PSU.... So, more performance? Just throw in another 8600GTS.:D

$770.91 after rebates :)
