from E6400 to 6.0... good move?

well guys ive not been on here for a while now, in that time i have built a new computer-

old one-------\/

core2 duo e6400
asus p5vd2-mx
1gig 533mhz ram
160GIG sata-samsung
liteon 16x dvd combi sata
onboard graphics

i know there are a few parts on there that wernt the best but at the time core2duos wer just coming out and the prices of the boards and ram wer bit too expensive

new one-------\/

Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Corsair 2GB PC6400 Dual Channel DDR2
Asus M2N-E SLI nForce 500
GEFORCE 7300GS 256/512 mb pci-e
160GB SAMSUNG HD160JJ SATA 3.0
nec dual layer dvd±rw 18x6x18x8

i know that there are some hardcore gamers in here that will prob look at my graphics and snigger but i dont play games just got it for my 37inch hd tv which is now my monitor lol.

can anyone tell me how much of a difference the 2systems would be side by side and what would be the equivelent core2duo setup to compete?

Just use the old one but upgrade it a bit, now ram goes for around 80$ or so for 2gb of DDR2 PC800, unless you already bought it lol
 
ammm... As far as I remember, the AMD64 x2 6000 was compariable with E6600.. So I assume it can be compare with E6550??
If you don't play game, why don't go with an onboard graphic with matx? save some$$.
May be get one with HDMI output. E.g.GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2H for intel or ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G HDMI for AMD... Even getting an additional GPU, try to get one with HDCP support, in case u will use it later...
 
The X2 6000+ is better then the E6400, but not by much. The second computer isnt all that much better, and the 7300GS is a horrible card if you want to play the newer games on it.
 
6000+ is just slightly faster than E6400, and if you overclock E6400 it will outperform 6000+ by far

i know the card is crap-really only got it cos it would enable me too use vista and its hd ready...

i have already built the amd computer now

i noticed a big difference in converting files from my camera-nearly halved the length the core2duo used to take, prob got alot to do with the speed of the ram and amount
 
I still dont see why you got a new PC. All you had to do was get another GB of RAM, and overclock the processor a bit.
 
You wasted your money for noting. You should have just added an extra 1GB ram to the Intel build and then you will see an increase in performance
 
well im happy with the build i got now-sold my core2duo for £300 and it cost me £350 to build the amd....

i think the next build will be a quad core but i fancie waiting a bit too see how the amd and intel competition goes cos as far as i can tell the fighting for the superior product is getting warmer

use to be amd now its intel-whats next?

hopefully a pay rise first lol
 
If you ask me you still wasted your money, you could got some more ram and overclcocked the old PC and your new one wouldnt be able to touch it
 
well the ld one was running cheap ddr2 533mhz and the new one is dual channel corsair 800mhz-

i tried overclocking the core2duo and the board or the memory wouldnt take it, just wouldnt boot up again.
