Dial up

I have a problem with IE. I am using Fire Fox, and IE keeps popping up with the dial up screen. This is when I am not on the internet using other programs. It pops up all by itself every night this is what I have on my screen every morning.

Why is this happening and how do I stop it. I don't use IE at all.

Welcome to computer forum. we hope you enjoy your stay here. please take a look at the forum rules

try opening ie and go to tools and internet options. then go to connections. look near the middle and make sure the never use a dial up connection is slected. if not slecte it.

Are you using dialup, or have you ever used dialup? How about pre-loaded things on the computer? Might there be some sort of "free offer" for AOL or something?

My guess is that you have some sort of spyware. Seeing as nearly everything affects Internet Explorer, it's simply trying to connect but is being blocked because it's not connected or the dialup connection has priority. The typical remedy for this is to run Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Hijackthis. Post the log for Hijackthis here.

Thanks, for the quick responses I will try all and let you know how it works out. It's a real pain to have that dial up popping up all the time.

I went to IE and selected never dial up but now I can't dial up on firefox as there is no command to make it dial up. I went back to IE and changed it back. I am still getting the dial up when I open a program and when the computer is not being used. What now?

Post your Hijackthis log here.

How to post a Hijackthis log:

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
