i have narrowed it down to these two... the quad is an overall nice cpu.... but the dual core e6750 is significantly cheaper... so i was wondering, price not being a factor, which is better for pretty hardcore gaming?? and by how much would it be better?? im gonna use bout 2gb of ram, and a 8800gtx...

Q6600 will be future-proof... It will run hotter due to 4 cores vs. 2 in the E6750, though. But still it's fine.... I like my E6850 b/c it's like an overclocker's masterpiece.

no game currently uses multi threading so id go with the e6750 to save cash and upgrade other gaming parts, but if you want future proof, go with the quad

The quad is 2.4Ghz, so when a game utilizes only dual cores it will be the equivalent of an E6600. Which can be fixed by simply overclocking to 2.66Ghz and then you have a Q6700 or E6750 on one die, as long as it is G0 Stepping. The Q6600 will go easily and safely in the 3.0-3.2Ghz range, every chip OC's differently so hard to give a good estimate.

you guys know how far these future games are?? and how much better full use of quad core would be over an e6750?

Yeah, Crysis is utilizing quad core technology... A LOT of the new games are and Crysis might be the first one to utilize it really well, correct me guys if wrong... Well, take an E6600 and x2, with the addition of a 1333Mhz FSB, that's my description of how much better. Not only gaming will be better but encoding DVD's and burning CD's will be faster as well..

what does G0 mean??? and can you get any computer store to overclocked your processors?? if so, how much approx?

A letter: G, and number: 0. it's a code signifying a manufactural change done to that chip. When the number changes it signifies a small change, and when the letter changes, a larger one.

There are no computer places that OC you're equipment as far as I know. You can buy GPU's (graphics cards) pre-overclocked, but you cannot do the same with CPU's. However certain Pre-build sites will selll you a build that has been OC'ed. I don't recommend because I've seen many reviews on these and they are inherently Un-stable.

I think you're wrong, Bioshock uses it I think.

Id go with the E6750 as i think it will over clock further and runs less hot and will perform great and then upgrade to a quad when you start to play lots of games programmed for multi core processors.

The difference between the two is not much (clock speed wise), however in a few months when the next-gen DX10 games come out, quad-cores will improve gameplay alot. So IMO, the Q6600 is the way to go.
