8600 gts versus ati 2600

I have the GTS and I'm really happy with it. I have no experience with the 2600, so I can't really compare them.

8600gts is better than the 2600xt, even at a higher resolution. Only in a couple instances is the HD 2600xt superior, Like with the Source engine. Bwahaha!

Those charts are misleading, go and look at each game and you find the 2600xt actually beats most games, it is just the disparity in 1 or 2 games that make the overall FPS misleading.

Those may not be the only games he plays, besides hardware specs are more reliable than a couple benchmarks by random websites...

No, it is superior to the 8600 in most instances...

proof ? evidence ? links ? benchmarks ?

2600xt, DDR4 memory. Much better for higher resolutions. Faster core clock as well.
8600GTS has higher texture fill rate which is more important for gaming

The stream processors in 8600GTS can do MAD and MUL instruction per clock at the same time. HD2600XT stream processors can't do MAD and MUL instruction at the same

8600GTS beats HD2600XT in high resolution

And those mid-ranged video cards are not designed for people who want to play at high resolution. So, there is no reason to compare them at high resolution anyway

It seems that 8600GTS was better in most of the games at tomshardware

Those may not be the only games he plays.
I posted many benchmarks in my previous post

I will post them here again for you

Why is everyone talking about the 8600 the card originally asked about was 8800GTS not the 8600?

Ohh and I would say go with the 8800GTS

He is just referring to the 8600 series...

Hopefully the 8700's(not laptop), when these things are released in Nov. Maybe we can quit debating about which is better and from rumor has it that the 8700's will be produced cheaper $:D$

Can't compare like this.
8600GT, 7600GT and 2600XT are at similar price.
And 8600GTS should compare with 7900GS and X1950Pro

You should compare the 2600 with the 8600GT, where the ATI mostly wins. But, if you compare it with a 8600GTS, the 8600GTS will win. But, if you are the kind of person who listens a lot of music, videos and doesn't play much games, I would go for the ATI. But, if you are a real gamer, then definitely the 8600GTS.
