my computer sucks

i need a new computer. i have a diminsion 4600, and it sucks, is really old, and im fed up with it sucking so insanely bad. the main problem i have is that i have no money. is it possible to build or buy a computer for less than 2000, preferably 1000 that will do everything o.k. as long as it will play most games on normal graphics w/ out lagging, and just not be screwy and infuriating, and really really realllllly slow, its fine. is this possible on my budget?
 
yes, 1000 can get you a very nice setup sans monitor/keyboard/mouse

1500 to 1700 can get you an impressive complete computer
 
i kinda want a new monitor, but i dont care about the keyboard/ mouse. any suggestions for builds/ and or premades?

I'm not really good in that area, an mouse is an mouse to me :D

He has $300 for $1500 and $700 for $2000 left, $300 should get some good stuff :D

Well it's your choice :D 2GB is enough for todays gamers, but 4GB should get you set for an few years :D Same with the CPU...
