True or False?

My friend told me that:

1. 8600's are way more stable than the 8800's.
2. The 8600's beat 8800's in some cases
3. DDR4 has come out
4. That the 8800 Ultra has an "huge" performance increase from the GTX.

1. 8600's are way more stable than the 8800's.
I wouldnt say that, I havent had any problems with my 8800GTS 640MB when they were first released. If anything it's a driver issue. False

2. The 8600's beat 8800's in some cases
The 8600 would never beat the 8800 in anything, unless there was a test which gave the best score for the worst performing system :) False

3. DDR4 has come out
DDR4 for video cards has been out for a little while, but not DDR4 for desktop memory. Need clarification

4. That the 8800 Ultra has an "huge" performance increase from the GTX.
Sortof. The 8800Ultra is basically just an overclocked GTX, so it is more powerful, however I wouldn't consider it a "huge" improvement. Somewhat true

1. stable in what way? for overclocking?
2. I dont think a 8600 can beat a 8800 unless the 8600 was overclocked a ton
3. GDDR4 memory is used in the ati radeon X1950 series and the new X2K series IIRC
4. the ultra only gives a 1-2% increase over the GTX

Stable for gaming.

Thank you

DDR4 for desktop

And he does not believe the 1% part. He thinks that his Ultra will own any GTX overclocked...

GTXs cost like $200 less than an ultra and to me, spending that much extra is useless. an 8800 gtx can easily play games on max settings plus im sure you can OC it to reach ultra speeds.

A GTX overclocked to the same extant will deliver the same performance. The ultra only has a couple bigger non-overclockable specs, slightly higher mem-bandwidth and shader clock. Not nearly the 8800GTX killer he thinks.

Well he never believes me.. guess it's because he went to newegg, and set it to "Highest price"...

lol, theres no use arguing with him then. Whenever he brings it up just nod and pretend like you're listening. :D

DDR3 for desktops just came out, DDR4 is not out yet.

The Ultra is more then a 1% increase, but again, it's not going to "own" a manually overclocked GTX.

4. the ultra only gives a 1-2% increase over the GTX

That completely untrue. Please check for benchmarks using google

Ultra will give you around 5-10% increase over GTX

GTXs cost like $200 less than an ultra and to me, spending that much extra is useless.

I think Ultra is only $100 more than GTX

This the first time I disagree with you hermeslyre

The Ultra can reach speeds up to 700/2400. GTX can't reach those speeds

Hmm, But still, that small a difference in maximum Oc-ability is hardly justifiable, considering price. Add an extra $200 or so to the price tag of the ultra and you can get two gtx's, OC both of them to their max and get an extra 40-80% utilizing SLI.

Meh he was up for gaming...

Well I'll just print this out for him :)

Just send him the URL and scoff as he reads it. He'll probably attempt to label us all as noobs, we expect you to defend our honor!

I thought the price was $200 more because I thought the ultra was at least $750 when they first released it. I'm surprised the price is that low at newegg. Ok, so the 1-2% increase was only on some games but all the reviews say that doesn't justify the price.

Meh I got him to believe... and gave him proof that even 2x 8600GT's in SLi and stuff still didn't beat the 8800's... Still amazing he knows how and what the latest parts are and has the latest computer but does not know this...
