I just bought a new Laptop, and recently switched to DSL from cable internet. Using my existing Linksys wireless router which ive never had a problem with. It is an older one. probably 3 yrs old.
My problem is:
my new toshiba has vista premium.
im also connecting a dell laptop with XP home SP2
both computers are shut down every night and rebooted the following day (I use Hibernate) regardless...the XP machine connects with no problem. when i turn on the vista machine it knocks the wireless signal from the xp machine and the vista machine says limited or no connectivity.
I have to recycle my modem and password everyday once i do that they both connect with no problems at all.

Could my modem not be compatable with vista or is there some kind of firewall setting im not aware of?

Im using WEP encryption.

also i brought my work laptop home last night to try that, it has xp pro its a panasonic toughbook. it killed the connection also and i had to recycle the modem and router.

I also connect a palm t/x everynight and that has no problems at all.

any suggestions are appreciated thank you!

what do you mean by "xp pro killing the connection" ? did you have your vista on as well? when you tried to connect your panasonic notebook? I suggest, you don't hibernate your vista. hibernate means sleeping, the programs that are running on your computer background are sleeping, meaning they will wake up again when you turn back on your computer. Since windows always has bug, we don't know if they can save all the details of running program correctly before it went to hibernate. Therefore I suggest you next time completely turned off your computer and see if you can fix the problems.

I hope this help.

by xp pro killing the connection i meant when i booted up the pro machine the xp home machine lost connection. I have been told now by my g/f (the xp home user) that when she gets home from work she always has resets the modem and router...

so, to update the situation... the computers are shut down every night the following day when one is booted up it will not connect or comes up with limited or no connectivity. so the modem and router are both unplugged and modem plugged in then router then it will connect. if another computer is turned on the first computer looses connection and now neither computer can connect. another unplug and replug in of modem and router.

I called the dsl provider he said if i get limited or no connectivity its a problem with my router and not a problem on their end. I am using this router that i had previously used with comcast cable and never had a problem like this. he said next time just unplug the router and plug it back in and see if that works to tell me if my router is bad.

any thoughts?
