i have a ati 9800 pro 128 mb and theres something wrong with the picture like its all messed up i can't even see my bro tells me its from overclocking to high and i noticed that the heatsink on it is off but that shouldn't effect the picture should it please i need help thanks
 
Messed up as in? Fuzzy, color off, lines everwhere? Is this all the time or just when playing a game? If it's all the time, then your card is either overheating, unstable, or dying. if it's only during gameplay it's likely either unstable, or just too hot. Check the temps with PCwizard, or everest or sandra, and dial back any overclocking you have done to ease the problem away, if possible.

its all the tim3 it has a iceq cooler system on it so it won't be overheating the fan is spining how do dial bakc overclocking cause i bought it off someone and didn't tell me that they overclocked it
 
It can't be overclocked previously, the app that was used to OC does that upon boot, so unless you bought the entire PC off the guy it's not OC'ed. If you did, locate atitool, or rivatuner and post up the clocks, mem and core. If you can't find those, or any other Oc'ing programs in the all programs menu then the card is probably not overclocked.

Check the temps anyways, it's either overheating or it's dying. (given it's not overclocked)
 
Lol, i must of missed that. Stick it back on mister! How it even come to be off? You usually have to unscrew the x-brackets on the back of the card..
 
It should already have some thermal paste applied. Just stick it back on. If there are no x clips I suggest Arctic Silver Adhesive compound for some lighter heatsinks.
 
It's hard to understand you, but are you saying that there is no heatsink on your card now? If so, that could be why it's all messed up.

Thermal paste isn't meant for adhesion, so it wont hold the heatsink by itself.

Arctic Silver thermal adhesive is an thermal glue. It will freeze iteself to 2 surfaces and transfer heat at the same time. I have used it before.

I wasn't referring to special thermal paste which also adheres, I was referring to traditional thermal paste/compound which is not meant to hold a heatsink in place.
 
No heatsink = overheat = messed up picture, artifacts and stuff.

And if it's been off for a while there might be permanent damage to your card.

LOL!!
First of all, the temperatures that come off of a video card are way too hot for elmers glue. Secondly, glue will not work at all because it's a very poor conductor of heat.

Theres no way your 23...
