Upgrading to Core2duo

Im debating wheather or not to buy a new core2duo(e6600), or keep the 3.4ghz pentium D that i have now....

I run perfectly fine in every single game out so far that i know of at max graphics and res. But, will this CPU be fine for future games?

specs in sig.

Future games? Might be pushing it. Many games out now can take advantage of 2 cores, not many for 4 cores however. Games will only become more technologically advanced. If the games you are playing now run everything fine, i wouldnt bother upgrading now. Upgrade when you want more performance unless you find a killer deal. I'm still using a P4, and all the games i play its just fine.

Hes using a pentium D=Dual core not a pentium 4.

I would just stick with your pentium d it should be fine for awhile longer if its working fine for you.
 
I wouldn't put anything close to the money of a Core 2 Duo on an ECS board, no offense. Just wait and upgrade everything at once...
 
IMO I wouldnt upgrade to the E6600, I would get at least the Q6600 so theres more of a jump.
 
I'd stick with the Pentium D for now, then say, when you start to notice a slow down or you feel that you need an upgrade, do it then... There's no sense in buying something to replace something that already works.

If it aint broke, don't fix it ;)

hehe, my friend still has an A64 3500+ and a 7800GT, but he doesnt game much anymore. I'll probably keep mine for a bit longer.
 
IMO, as far as you are OK with current performance, you don't need to upgrade.
I will rather suggest saving up $$ and get a new system every 3-4 year.

I'm getting the feeling I'm beating you all with my P4 1.7Ghz, but then again I know very little about AMD(specially from back then).

Like others, I say you should worry about a new computer only when the games you play aren't working so well and then get something that will last u a few more years.

well I don't think ur beating us all cuz a A64 3500 is about 2.2ghz
