need a mobo, ram, cpu, and video card CHEAP

well, im looking into upgrading my current rig now, but all i need is a video card, some ram, a processor, and a mobo. my psu is 700W ocz so thats fine, my case is perfect, and my hd and dvd drives are ideal so far. im looking for cheap, dual core, and a video card better then my x800GTO. 2 GB ram, doesnt matter what speed around 667 i think and at least an AMD 4k or an e4400, i know AMD 4400's are only about 80 dollars on newegg, is that better than the 170 dollar e6300?

oh and i am NOT scared to overclock, so even something like an e2140 might be ok, because people on newegg claim they can get up to 3.2GHZ on the STOCK heatsink

First you have to provide a top price range being looked at and the type of build you are trying to see there. For AMD some good prices have been seen on AM2 boards lately that will run DDR2 667 memory easy anough. For a cpu a faster AMD model would be the 4800+ X2 model seen for $97.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103778R

Is that the OCZ GameXStream or StealthXStream 700w model there? I went with the MSI Radeon HD 2600XT model for a mid range card here and had some fun seeing the Catalyst 7,9 finishing it's own installation after several system restarts but has since been running games good for that ATI model. The price was far lower for the DX10 capatible card compared to the 8600s and 8800s.
 
my price range? its about 700 dollars us, i think for all i already have that is a lot, it should get me a really good system. i have operating system, everything. my psu is the gamexstream, is that good or bad? im pretty sure it can handle everything i throw at it, and more.
 
The exact same supply has seen great results in the new build here while someone was pointing me at the Corsair HX620 for the energy saving feature that supply features when first planning this case out. Two of the 4 rails are for sata drives while one of the two ide rails works out here well for all the 12v case fans in use!

For the video card an 8600 or 8800 model video card is going to be the higher portion of the $700 you have to work with. Likewise an HD 2900 series card with an ATI chip will also be a high ticket item over going for a mid range model. There's a large price gap between a high end card for a high end gaming system and one that will fit into a tighter budget pricewise like the mid range DX10 compatible MSI model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127303
 
and also, this will be in a few months, will the new intel quad cores be cheaper/more powerful? i would LOVE to get one, if they are reasonably priced under 300$, and i was leaning towards the ATI DX10 cards, because i have always had luck with them in the past and i like the fact that they support visualization
 
yes but since i will be getting my system in maybe six months or more might the newer quads be out? or am i imagining things?
 
Any newer quad core models by Intel may introduce a new socket type other then 775 with those. The initial prices seen on any new line of cpus are always way up there like $550-$1100 at first to drop over a period of time. Meanwhile ATI just released a patch for the latest Catalyst 7.9 since problems were being seen in several games. That's the update presently available for the new HD 2xxx series cards.
 
i see. a quad core, mby something like the 6700 would be future-proof no? i mean, i dont want to upgrade for at LEAST a year-and-a-half after this, probably much longer. i think that the prices on current quads will go down, and with that new patch do you think any kind of performance increase has been accomplished?
 
At this time when starting the system up the screen goes dark immediately after the loading personal settings splash screen finishes leaving a desktop you can't see. This started after installing the patch but check the date 10/1 so no restore points available. Plus the drivers for the Xtreme Audio model card in use for the next day or so has been nothing but a real annoyance in XP while Vista saw color management problems with the 7.9 corrected on the spot.

As for sound and Video in Vista all is well while XP suffers more from the discovery that even the drivers on the software cd disk seem to be more Vista orientated. The dec. 06 update was tried and saw better results with the web updater1 over the updater3 seen for july that installed Vista drivers instead! Half Life 2 and a much older DX8 game are both seeing crashes to the desktop with the 7.9 for XP or a sudden system restart when a game sound sees a crash in the older 2002 game.

The patch itself is simply a fix for gaming problems in the more recent games not any performance booster there. But by the time you actually put everything together the Cat 7.10, 7.11, and even upto a 7.14 may be out that has seen corrections there.

Your build isn't bad, but it has a big defect called leadtek, which is piece of crap and another defect is, that's over the budget by a lot, anyway this is what i would get if i were you lovely

 
EVGA, BFG, Asus, MSI, and even some models by Sapphire will surpass Leadtek and HIS brands easy enough! For the latest ATI models MSI and Asus seem to step out in front while EVGA is a good consideration there as well.
 
i like that build alot chupacabra the ram is nice, but maybe could be cut back for cost?, the motherboard, as far as i can tell is definetely up to par, but im wondering with the processor, is it going to last me as long as a quad will? and since this build will be in a few months, does anyone know of any price drops ready to happen? i am no longer considering amd, since i checked up on the tomshardware and saw that the 6000 lags behind the e6600 in every operation.


EDIT: i guess what my point is is how long will i be able to play every game on maximum with the build chupacabra gave? or is it already past that point?

You could cut on the mother board, but i wouldn't go lower than the P35 ds3l, mostly because i'm not sure that the p31 that oscar suggested will support the upcoming 45mm processors.

Now for your other question, well you will be able to play on high for like 8 months or so ( no using aa or bilinear etc), one of the reasons i suggested evga is the step up program

There is no such thing as a future proof build since hardwares see changes about every six months while it took ovet 5yrs. to see another apparently as some would call it a big MS flop. Hardwares see changes at lightning speed. At this time in 2006 if you said anything other then the new Cpre 2 Dups or the 7900 series cards you got laughed at. Now that everybody knows about the 8600s and 8800s people are waiting for the 9800s!
 
i know what you guys mean i got the 3400 when it was the best of the best lol (well im not sure if it was the BEST but it was soooo expensive

I personally will not get P31 chipset, get a P35 at least
 
what is the difference? oh and i am also looking to be able some overclocking room, overclocking a quad core is something i have no clue about though.

well, i changed the ram, the video card, and the motherboard, is this a good deal here? i know the 2900PRO can be overclocked to very fast speeds, (i have phenominal case cooling :D) but the C2D... i just dont know if it will last, due to technology increases

I wouldn't get that 2900pro even if it was the last card on the planet, why? because it doesn't not live up to the expectations you pay for
