Rebuild Question

Hey Im new! So thanks for letting me be here! :)

But i have a few questions, my parents have a pos emachines, and i replaced the video card, psu, and hd. But The whole computer is going to need a rebuild soon. The case i belive is a mid tower, its a pretty small mid tower, or its a micro atx. Not too sure tho.. But i was wondering if i could rebuild it with any kind of motherboard. Because if i can, i am going to keep most of the stuff, reformat the drives, and just rebuild the mobo. Which would include, CPU, Memory, ETC.

So basically the question is Will any motherboard fit into a emachines c2480

I belive the dimensions are 14 x 7 x 16inches (H x W x D)

just check out newegg.com.... research what kind of board you are interested in, and newegg.com will tell you the dimensions of each board
 
alright, will do. And if i keep my HD with xp on it, will i need to get a new OS or can i just run it off my HD with xp?
 
if you dont change the HD, the current OS should work fine, i dont think changing the mobo should affect whether or not the HD will work, just make sure that if your HD is SATA, that the new mobo has SATA connections, which im sure most new boards do
 
if you already have a hard drive with all your stuff and an os on it you dont have to reformat just use the exiting drive and version of windows
 
If you go to newegg.com and look for a mobo that interest you, go to the specification tab and there should be dimension of the board listed there for you.

You should know that switching motherboards WILL effect the hard drive. The HDD may not allow you to boot or even get into safe mode. You would need to do an full repartition and reformat. Otherwise, I would recommend you to do an repair installation at the main boot screen.

I can't believe you said that! That is so not true.

Any time you change the motherboard you will 99% of the time have to reformat and reinstall windows.

Unless of course you are using the same motherboard and chipsets that you had installed before.
