Hot CPU big problem

Ok, I cannot get my CPUs temp to be lower, at least according to the BIOS

I put on a new layer of Artic Silver 5, and according to the BIOS, im idling at 38 C....

wierdly enough, my temps in PC Wizard are lower, Core 1 at 32 and Core 2 at 28

Which should I trust?

Id feel comfortable with the PC Wizard temps but the temp according to the BIOS is obviously too hot

Suggestions?

Thank you

Always trust BIOS because it is the most reliable source. BIOS reads the temps straight from the board, before windows has even started. I never check temps in OS.

First, those temps are fine idle. The reason the BIOS tends to show higher temps is because Windows uses the system idle process, which keeps the processor under control by only using it's processing power when it is needed.

You dont want temps straight from the board, you want them from the individual devices. A reading from the temp. diode on the processor is much more accurate then one below the CPU on the motherboard.

thx for all the responses, this does make me feel a little better... so i shouldnt worry too much and trust the PC Wizard temps?

Run Prime 95 overnight. If you experience hardware failures (errors), then your temps are probably too high.

but if they are too high, how can i fix this? I mean, my case has great airflow with three case fans and the CPU fan is the one in my sig, a zalman CNPS 9500.... How much more can I do to fix this?

Before assuming your temps are "too high" (they don't appear to be), run Prime 95 overnight.

Are you OC'ing your processor? If so, lower the voltage a bit.
