Having a hard time getting web pages to come up...

Just bought a new laptop, it worked fine for about 2 days, and now the web pages are coming up slow. My e-mail is working fine on it, the strength says it is excellent, so I know it is picking up the wireless connection. Web pages come up, but it takes forever. Any ideas? Thanks.

email requires very little bandwidth. first thing to try to unplugging your modem and router and plugging them back in. if that doesnt work report back and well guide you through some other troubleshooting steps.

Thanks...

Yeah, that did not do it. I have a neighbor who is using a laptop as well off of this router, hers is working fine. It is almost like I messed some settings up or something, bought it Monday and it worked okay for 2 days, now it is very slow.

what type of router did you use?
i am assuming you are running vista, in the network icon in the system tray (bottom right hand side, near clock) there should be a icon of 2 computer monitors, is there a small round globe there as well, a yellow triangle or nothing at all?

Belkin. I have one monitor with what looks like the globe on it.

The internet servers could also be an problem. Wireless is know to be slow. Especially if you are using 802.11B while your router is an 802.11G. Wireless adapter quality also comes in, the worse the quality, the worser the signal, no matter what it shows. How close the router is to your computer is also something to consider. You could always use the direct 100MPBS connection via your RJ-45 port, or ethernet port. If you are using an free hotspot, do not expect it to be fast, as many people would be there doing the same. I would suggest you put an password on the router, as other people could be connecting and playing games or so using your internet connection, thus the slow internet. If none of this works, I would try an direct connection or the gpedit.msc trick.
