Computer Build Help

I have already gotten a little info on this from chupacabra but decided to start my own thread....

The build i am looking for is strictly for gaming, and i have been looking and vigorgaming.com for the build for a few reasons.

1) I have only read good reviews from this company
2) They offer a 3 Year Warranty on parts and a lifetime warranty on service
3) I dont want to mess anything up trying to put this badboy together >.<

I have a few questions......

1) i just read that using RAID0 will not improve gaming performance. Is it worth using RAID mirroring to back up my files or just use one big hard drive? is any RAID setting going to help gaming performance/information access?

2) I read that the MOBO i have listed will only run dual video cards at a bandwidth of 8..something instead of using one card running at 16. is this true and if so, is it better to use one card at 16 or 2 crappier cards at 8??

3) Will these components work well together?

4) How will games run if Im using this tv as a monitor .. and which should i use to connect for best resolution?

IMO configuring raid0 is pointless, the sata drives transfer data at 3gb/s which is more than enough.
I don't really see why you'd need an SLI config for gaming, a single 8800gts is more than youll need for a few years. Unless you are doing some really intense video editing or things of those nature I think a single video card should be good enough. save the $$.

In my opinion, the whole set up is over priced (way over priced)

Firstly, the 32-bit OS that they offer will not recognize the 4GB RAM that they put in there. This is because 32-bit OS can only see a maximum of 3.12GB. So you might want to change the RAM to just 2GB (it's enough to play recent games) or if you really have to have a maximum RAM, get 3GB (so that would be 2x1GB + 2x512MB)

The sound card looks like an onboard to me... Another reason to say the build is overpriced. Also, there is no point in getting a SLI motherboard if you are only using one video card.

The following is a build that I have come up with, I was trying to go as close as I can to the build that you posted.

Cooler Master 690 (I believe this is the same case, not sure though)

PC Power & Cooling Silencer Quad 750W (I know its only 750W compared to your 800W but this PSU will be more than enough for the whole rig)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Hopefully you will get the G0 stepping as it will run cooler)

Note: if you want a guaranteed G0 stepping, buy this processor from ClubIT as they guaranteed a G0 stepping for their Q6600.

that sounds awesome! thanks for the help. I changed out the PSU for the one offered in a combo on the bottom of the hard drive page. Just to make sure, the mobo is vista compatible correct? and is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 G0 Stepping Conroe 3.0GHz 4MB L2 LGA 775 better than the quad mentioned above? whats the difference?

Nope. Core 2 Duo is 2 cores. Quad is 4 cores...

Budget? I'd like to give it an go.

RAID0 increase the speed on Read/Write on HDD. Should increase the performance, theoretically, but may not be significant enough for you to notice when gamming. Also, if you use P2P software, I will not suggest you use RAID0, it 'harm' both HDD at the same time.

650i chipset run SLi with PCI-E x8, if you want both run at 16, get 680i

3) Will these components work well together?
32bit OS works up to 3GB RAM. Get the 64bit if you need to run more RAM

4) How will games run if Im using this tv as a monitor .. and which should i use to connect for best resolution?

I personally haven't try connecting PC with TV, so no idea. But I do have concern with the respone time of TV compare to the gaming LCD Monitor.

daisymtc, thanks for noobin it up for me, just what i needed :)

about the core and quad difference, i was wondering about performance differences...advantages (when used in gaming computer)

I dont believe i will be using p2p programs....they are like music download programs and stuff like that right? i will just be running games on this comp, nothing else. shouldnt have to worry bout it messing up raid0 right?

2)oh and is it possible to have an external usb harddrive that can back up all my info? and if one HDD does fail, can i stripe the info back again with the external drive after replacing the faulty HDD? the main purpose behind my build is to build a high powered game pc that i wont be stressing the hell out of, so i dont need to worry too much about burning out components. thanks again :)

I wouldn't go with a quad core unless you are doing some heavy video editing or very thread intensive apps. one of the higher speed core 2 duos will have plenty of power.

which will yield better performance? can i not overclock a quad Q6600 to 3.3 and have it performing better than the duo? they are about the same price, so why not go with the quad if its better?

Yes. Get the Q6600 here. You'll need thermal paste and an aftermarket heatsink/fan if you plan to overclock.

thanks! thats where i was gonna get it :) for the guaranteed g0 stepping. already have a heatsink in mind as well.....just wondering, whats the diff between OEM and Retail CPUs on that site/any site??

With OEM, you only get the processor - no box or stock HSF. With retail, you get the fancy retail box, cool Intel sticker, HSF, and installation instructions. It looks like all you need is the OEM product. :)
