Which card should I get? 8600 GTS PCI-E VS x1950PRO for AGP

1950 pro is better for higher res and AA

a good alternative would be an 8600gt, and overclock it to gts speeds easily.

but then again look at the second most helpful review on the gts on newegg

Pros: Having a dx10 card for the newer games is great, it doesn't take much to power it and stays kinda cool.
Cons: Before this I had an ATI x1950 PRO and it got way better frame rates then this card does.
Other Thoughts: Since I have one already just going to buy a second one and run it SLI hopefully my frame rates kick up....

oh hmmm my motherboard supports PCI express slots. So any more recommendations around that price range? thanks thanks!

id say 1950 pro if ur not going to overclock

7900 gs / 8600gt if you are.

but realisticly your not going to run dx10 games on 8600gt/gts(s)

You might be able to run DX10 games on a 8600gts! Instead of the ol' warhorse reasoning, that of a powerful new format that requires more muscle, I believe the new view that's coming around is that DX10 is more of an optimizing Directx version. Early test show that DX10 runs better, cleaner, than Dx9, Generally receiving better FPS under similar settings, Add in to that that the GTS is similar to the 7900 series of cards, and that despite M$' best efforts, the haven't been able to push DX10 to new graphical heights (look at the real FSX Dx10 screenies, not the pre-rendered ones).

So my vote goes towards the 8600gts, in stead of either of the other cards. As extra, the 8600gts uses less power than the others, around that of a 7600gt.
