Before I make the jump, based on my specs, that I game, and the release date of Starcraft 2 with predicted DX10 graphics, should I reload XP onto me lappy?

Definantly, i would not trust Windows Vista atm until such a time when they bring out the first service pack.

Yeah I heard that Vista ain't that good for gaming.

When is Starcraft 2 out?

They don't even have a confirmed date, which is safe to say that it won't be out until the speculated late 2008.

As for gaming performance under Vista, it's more or less decent. Most games will notice a drop in fps but, for the most part, it's only been at the most 10 fps with a drastic drop in an odd game here or there; probably because of a driver compatibility issue.

Another thing to consider is that Vista's Service Pack is expect to be released early 2008.

10 FPS is alot for FPS games such as Counter-Strike, you can't afford to lose that.
2008!! wow will there be beta verisons out?

If you don't mind, I created another thread with the same topic as I believe the topic name could be misleading. (Vista is greater/better than XP.....)

What I wanted was that should I go back to XP.......

unless you're getting a brand new system, I wouldn't advise getting Vista until SP1. I have it, and I love it, but I don't game much.

Someone mentioned losing 10FPS in Counter Strike on Vista... I have a hard time believing that. I got the same frame rates on Vista Ultimate as my buddy did with XP on the same video card. I think your wrong on that statement.

I personally don't like Vista, since i'm so used to XP. As for gaming, I actually got a bit better performance in CSS as well as others in Vista.

I like vista better than XP... i would say keep it, i see no disadvantage in games with it. Even with my X800XL it performs just as well on vista as it does XP. I'd say you would get no performance gain...

It could and will vary from system to system; even with the same specs.

that's not a very good "experiment" (or at least imo). So what if you have the same graphics card...that still leaves a TON of variables that could be different between systems.

The only way to actually check would be to run multiple benchmarks on the same machine. (Which I did a few hours ago previous to seeing this thread lol....look at my sig for 3dmark06 scores in xp/vista)

wow dude, stop posting these threads. seriously, its annoying as hell. Use whatever works and if you cant decide dual boot!
