Core 2 Duo or X2?

Hey guys! I'm using a Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939. I'm planning on upgrading to the duo processors. I'm going to change my mo-bo aswell. AM2 or 775, i still haven't made up my mind. I was thinking of getting a Athlon 64 X2 5000+, is that a good CPU? Or should I switch to Intel?

Well 775 would be a best choice mostly cuz they are overperforming the AMD (plus they have better mother boards) but it's up to you, you could get a X2 6000+ for 160$

that's the reason why i wanted the x2 because they're pretty cheap.

i have a question about the L2 Cache. X2 have 1mb i think and the Core 2 Duo's have 4mb.
What does the L2 Cache do? Does it improve performance?

EDIT: I like that 5000+ Black Edition. And only for $130!?!?!?

L2 cache isn't the only factor that the processor's performance depends on. But just for your information L2 cache is used to store information that is used frequently by the CPU because it's a very fast type or memory so that the information can be accessed quickly.

thanks shady! i'm sticking to AMD. now the i need to decide if i'll get that 5000+ Black Edition or something higher like the 6000+ chupacabra suggested.

if i switched to intel, it'll really mess up my avatar.

Just be aware that the 6000+ is a power consumer, it gets hot, you're gonna need a decent cooling system if you're gonna overclock.

Try googling a little before deciding, Don't make a decision depending on one man's opinion:)
There might be other people who have different thoughts.

The X2 5600 runs cooler and at 89W and will clock as good as the 6000, all of the 5600 I have installed will go to 3.0 without a voltage increase.

Wait until AMD comes out with the X4's and Intel comes out with the 45nm's. Then the prices should drop and you can base your decision on that.

I can do 3.27 on stock volts stable :P.. for 3.33 i use 1.425

I would get a 5600 and OC, they are only $140 now.... and i paid $180

Since AMD set the 5600 as a 89 watt model and less voltage I would say the 5600 is a better yield cores than the 6000 since its a 125 watt model because the 5600 clocks easy to 3.0 without a voltage increase. I would skip the 6000 all togeather and get either the 5600 or the 6400

I just ordered a e2180 for the family computer (yea I kno my avatar) and I hear that they can overclock to from 2ghz to 3ghz on stock cooling

i have allways been a fan of AMD.... but right now, intel has the field.... allways go to the cpu charts on tomshardware.... if you like a certain X2, see what the next fastest intel is, then check the price on it... if its cheeper then the x2 you chose, then choose the intel... its its more, go with the x2

X4's? AMD hasnt even released their tri-core models yet, so dont expect quad-core desktop processors to be available well into 2008.

Did you say "allways go to the cpu charts on tomshardware" ?

Those GPU and CPU charts on tomshardware are not reliable in my opinion and they contradict a lot with other reviews

I would never go to the CPU or GPU charts on tomshardware
