Hello, new to the forum...I am looking to upgrade my graphic card. I have a Amd Athlon 64 3200, 2GB Ram, with the Nvidia 6100 inegrated chip in it and want to get rid of that one and I am not sure what to get. Dont do much gaming, but do alot of Dvd playback. any suggestions on where to start? Was looking at the Geforce 7300GT, 7600GS, and the Radeon X1300. Would these be a good start or not?? Thank you

Also, I do have a PCI Express slot....

Your onboard card is just fine for DVD playback, but if you must upgrade, the 7600GT would be my suggestion. It's still a pretty fair card and getting rather cheap.

Thanks.. Also have been told that the one I have is using on board memory, so upgrading would help by using own memory, or something like that....Opinions on that...thank you

there are no opinions on that, you had it exactly right! video cards have their own processor (called a GPU) and their own memory. Your current graphics solution is built into your motherboard and uses your CPU and RAM...the drawbacks to integrated solutions are obvious.

Thank you, amazing what you learn on the internet. Now I need to decide on what card to go with, probably anything out their will be better than what I got now, and free up my computer...

i have a 8600gts superclocked edition, it runs crysis on almost all high settings at a playable rate, if u turn down textures which i cant even tell the difference it runs a lot better, anti-aliasing isnt enabled on the beta though i have a feeling it would really slow down this card on that game, but the beta isnt even optimized so who knows wat to expect, to be quite frank i was surprised by the performance of this card.

It needs an 6800GT minimum, I could probably play it maxed on my 7300LE...

And why not the 8600GTS with better peformance?

Well he's not going to game, to the 8600gt (with MUCH less power consumption) would be plenty for him. Plus it's a good $40 cheaper.

if you arent going to use Vista, go for the 7600GT, if you plan to use Vista, go for the 8600GT

A 7600gt can handle all of Vista's pretty looking things easily. As long as he doesn't plan to use DX10 (which he probably wouldn't seeing that he doesn't game much), the 7600gt would do fine.

NO

Observe how benchmarks show the...

8800GTX/2900XT pumps out about 50fps on maxed out settings...

your 7300LE will probably get 3 seconds per frame .

And lastly,
@fbird93: Are you planning to watch high-def blu-ray/ HD DVD with this computer later on? If so, get a 2600pro/xt or 8600gt, they will help alot with the playback.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I ended up getting the

EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI

$69.00 shipped.....

Well, what a waste of money on the E-geforce 7600Gt. Should have stayed with the Nvidia 6100 integrated chip....I guess its a lesson learned....Doesnt perform any better than the onboard card, the only thing is it freed up the rest of my ram....Very disappointed......

yes, even went to nvidia and downloading the latest and greates drivers....just doesnt impress me at all. Only thing is, is have not gotten my new psu yet, should be here before the weekend. Maybe that will make a huge difference..........

The 7600GT definitely rips any integrated chip out there. If you are on a budget, the 7600GT should be the lowest card you should go with, anything below would not be worth it. The PSU is not a problem as long as you have at least a 300W one. You should install the right drivers and make sure any old drivers are uninstalled properly.

no, definetaly not ona budget, just dont do alot of gaming to spend the big bucks on something that most likely isnt going to work any better than what i got. Also 300 w is not big enough, calls for min. 350w and 18a at +12v rail...stock psu isnt close to those numbers....

lol you won't be able to see difference in video playbacks.Play games and you gonna see how good your new card is than your onboard.

just played the demo for call of duty 2 on highest settings, no problems...and need for speed most wanted on highest settings and no problems...Not sure what you can judge by playing those games at highest setting, but ran perfect.....
