big jump in temps

okay this is weird... i have an e4300 OCd to 2.6, using stock HSF. idles at 26C and each core at 29C. when i use TAT at full load, the temps jump to 80ish C. what could cause such a huge leap in temps?

Explain to a noob, whats TAT?

I have a simmilar problem although my cpu IDLES at 57-60c LOL The only thing I can do to get it cool is put a huge-o-ass box fan on it at full speed.

god... whats TAT? guessing that it puts a full load on your cpu..... set the clock speeds down to defualt, run it, and see if the temps rise...

TAT = thermal analysis tools (or something similar)

basically its just some lightware that monitors temps on each core and has an option to run the CPU at the % load you select, in order to view the temps that a certain load causes. i run mine at 100% and they max at just over 80C ... 100% is definitely a worse case scenario but its still a little higher than id like to see.

im not sure what case you have, but 57-60 idle is a big problem. first try using more than one program to check temps, because a lot of times one will report higher temps than another. BIOS is always preferred, or the software that comes with your mobo. coretemp for example says i idle at 60C, when my bios says 26

so for me, coretemp is crap.

make sure your heatsink and fan are snug, they should not move at all whenever you push on it lightly. a loose heatsink will definitely cause major issues. also check your thermal compound to make sure you have enough (or not too much) .... aim for the size of a grain of rice, or slightly larger.

also try installing some better case fans. 120mm, one in the rear blowing air out, and another 120mm in the front sucking air in works well because it creates a windtunnel and keeps the flow of hot air from inside the case moving out. also, an aftermarket heatsink and fan is always an option, but unless you are doing some major overclocking, you really shouldnt require one

I downloaded TAT, it said I had an invalid processor, but speedfan instantly dropped to 44c  oh well.

yea im not a big fan of TAT because it reports false temps for me. the only reason i use it is for the CPU load percentage test, which is a lot more convenient than opening numerous applications to check on your temps. speedfan, and my bios are the only two things i trust when it comes to reporting accurate temps

yeah, just take off the side panel and make sure the fan is spinning.... if it is, and still overheating, do what the other dude said, take off the heatsink, clean the heatsink and cpu, put new thermalpaste on it, and reapply the heatsink, and see if it still does it.... but make sure you reset all the clock speeds just to make sure your not overclocking

If I put an exhaust fan on my case the CPU temp reads higher. POS compaq!!!

@7angofragger

I can't OverClock so theres no problem there.

DirtyD, kornowski has the same issue, im not sure what it is tho

Uh Hu!

Dirty, don't use TAT for 100% load. EVER! Your computer will never reach those temps doing anything anyway... Also, they said that Full Load is Ok to do on a stock CPU, but they know what it does to an OC'ed one... So I wouldn't!

Use it for looking at the temp, Yeah, Why not... (If it works for you :P)

For testing full load on the CPU use Orthos and set it to the CPU stress, small FTTP or something like that, it's more realistic, still not likely your computer will reach those temps, even when gaming, but it's alright...

I got like 55c full load with TAT, but with Orthos I get 46c, which is a LOT better!

Hope this helps! :)
