Turns out my mobo only has a lan, so... I need a modem, because I live in a place that just barely exists at all. I've picked out a few that I am considering but my knowledge of Dial-up and modems consists of the acknowledgment that is sucks, how to pop(literally) a card out and a new one into a laptop, and that my laptop one isn't going to work on my tower. Oh, and the stuff about phone lines, I took a jack apart and by sticking the ends together could make the phone go out in all but that room, or in all rooms.
I'm just looking for a way to use the internet in a magical/evil world where there is only Dial-up, on a motherboard that apparently only has Lan, which won't work with a phone even if the cord fits... I don't really care who's calling, or what they want, and as long as I'm not disconnected every time someone tries to call I'm happy. We do have call waiting.
These are just what I found if you have better suggestions please post them here. Will these work on Linux/Ubuntu? They say they work on win 98-XP but nothing about Linux or even having drivers for Linux OSs. That stuff about the modem disconnecting you when the phone rings, you can turn that off and let the caller just fly to the answering service right?

I know the reviews on this one are bad but the modem for my laptop is a diamond and until I got fed up with my laptop shocking me all was/is working fine, so I put it here anyway to see what you guys would say.
