Difference between Vista 64bit and 32 bit?

The only difference that will affect you is the amount of RAM (memory) you can install. With XP, you are limited to 3 GB. With Vista, you are limited to 128 GB. Older applications, especially games, are not compatible with 64 bit operating systems. Older device drivers may be incompatible w/ a 64 bit OS as well.

Click here and here for a more technical explanation. If you feel it is necessary to install more than 3 GB of RAM, you must have a 64 bit OS.

short answer: dont use 64 bit

Here we go...

If you need to buy go ahead and purchase 64bit as there is no disadvantage of having it as opposed to 32bit. The major advatage with 64bit is the memory, you can have up to 128gb as 32bit will only allow 3gb. Just like mep said above

Yeah, although apparently some apps don't work too well in 64bit... but I know a few people that have it and they seem to love it!

Why don't you get the upgrade disc (32Bit), it comes with instructions on how to send MS something like $14 and they send you a 64bit DVD.

Let's actually *help* the OP with their question instead.

64-bit is the future, but right now, it's a long ways off from becoming both the mainstream standard, as well as completely stable. 32-bit is 99% stable when compared to 64-bit. There are many more applications that will handle 32-bit perfectly, but tend to mildly freak out on 64-bit; nothing major, just inconveniences and hassles to deal with.

I'd stick with 32-bit honestly. In 5 years, who knows, I may be using 64-bit, but not in the foreseeable future.

I could argue with that :o

Since the retail version of vista is sold with 32 and 64bit, 64bit is just as support as 32bit. And myself or anyone else i know has had a single problem with drivers or anything else..
