My experience has been stay with same memory. Im not an memory expert like others but have bought several years ago. i would buy and have to take it back several times. I don't bother with it any more. the easiest way like i did is do in one trip. take the tower in and let them plug it in. they just plug in monitor and boot looking for a count. if its wrong then plug in something else on the fly.
512 has worked fine for years. I started newgroup binaries with a client like NewBinPro then i needed a gig. that was a 1st.

BS. Memory manufacturer does not matter. Want proof? Does 16 computers with different memory count?

As long as the type is the same and your motherboard supports it, your fine.

Ok yes it is fine to switch ram to another computer, just make sure your using the proper type and putting in a motherboard that supports it.
Some popular brands are Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, Patriot, and Kingston. There are many brands of RAM Companies. I would reccomend 2gb or 1gb of Dual Channel Ram (DDR2) or DDR if your board can support it. I would reccomend getting at least 1gb for todays demanding Application and Software
