Computer wont start up help!

I purchased a new hard drive for my computer and was going to use it as a second hardrive. After the hardrive install I start up the computer and the Window XP loading screen appears as normal. After that screen I get this Blue Screen Error Physical Memory Dumping. I restarted the computer several times an still the same message. I then removed the New hardrive that I purchased and put everything back to normal and the same error message shows up during start up. So finally I got fed up with it so I booted the XP home disk and I completly format the hardrive. Now I do not get the error message but when it load past the XP home screen, it thens goes to a black screen with only the mouse cursor. I can move the cursor but everything else is black. Can anyone help me please. Thank you in advance!!!
 
Are those sata or ide? And which one is set as the default in the bios? Which orderr did you install the new drive when adding that in? Was it added as a master or slave if ide or primary master if sata?

Not too sure, im not like a pro when it comes to computers. Not sure what Sata ot IDE means. I just plug the hard drive in and never config anything. I thought it was a plug and play. I know with my old computer all I did was plug the addtional hardrive in and it always worked. When I re install windows I set the cd drive as the first boot in the Bios. Then after the install was complete there was an option to set everything back to default by pushing F10 I think and so I did.
 
Is it something that has to do with jumpers? I do not know much about these but I know you have to change them whether the hardisk is primary or slave device.

That will depend on if it is a sata or ide drive. Ide requires jumpers for slave and master if they are on the same cable. On the newer boards you can just set them to cable select and it will depend on which position the drives are on the cable.

I have had only some experience with sata, but I think each drive plugs into their own port.
 
What I did was I plug the power into the New hardrive. Then I followed the original hardrive cable and it had a extra plug. All I did was plugged into there and I got that error message. I dissconnected the new hardrive and put it back to normal. Formated the computer and Now I cant load windows.
 
Ok, this sounds like an IDE cable and drives. The Hard drive you are going to have your OS on needs to be set to master (if you are going to have 2 drives on the same cable) and the other drive set to slave. There are some jumpers on the back of the drives and there should be a schematic showing how to set the jumpers.

The connection on the far end away from the motherboard has to go to the primary hard drive (master) and the other connection goes to the back up (slave) drive.

Ok I will go home and check it all out. But another thing is that my re install of XP went ok with no problems and the Its loads up to the start up screen. Wouldnt this mean that it is properly installed? Thanks for yout post guys!!
 
Since that sounds like a prebuild system the original drive would likely have no jumper pin to find since cable select is the standard. This allows for easy replacement without fuss or worry about which position the jumper pin is set to.

You rushed to reinstall Windows went it wasn't even necessary. If the new drive doesn't work on the SL or SA for slave jumper setting you would set it to cable select and simply leave the original drive the way it is.

To make the new drive usable you first have to partition and format it. Yoiu can do this through the "Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage" where you look for the Disk Management tool. The image here will show how that looks when showing all hard drives and optical drives as well installed on a system.

Wow this is all confusing the hell out of me. Sorry if I sound like an idiot. So what I want to do now is put it back to the factory setting and forget about the new Hardrive becuase I am going to return it. My original hardrive in the computer is a samsung and the jumper are set to general, I do see on the sticker that it says Master slave. I plugged everything back the way it originally was. My computer loads to the XP Screen during start up. Then once it gets past that screen it goes into black screen with only the mouse cursor on it. I can move the mouse and the cursor does move. I formated the computer again and the same thing happens. Thanks in advance.
 
It sounds like one or more of the setup files weren't copied to the drive during the installation. The first boot from the drive should see the installation complete itself then. You may want to start listening for any sounds the original drive itself may be making like clicking sounds since that would point to failing read/write heads.

The screen shot above is from the old build here with two ide, two sata, and two optical drives the way they were seen in the XP Disk Management tool at the time. The blue line on the top with a white area is the actual partition seen on each one. For the optical drives that would be the size of the disk in the drive there as far as much data was on each.
