M3 Freezes when CPU in use!

Hi - I have a Tecra M3 (1.8ghz, 1.5gb ram, 60gb) that freezes whenever the cpu is in use for any length of time. It is unpredictable, but if you use the computer for a day it will freeze somewhere from 6-15 times.

If I have it on but don't use the processor, it won't freeze. But even if I am using media player, it will freeze. It is very annoying!

A hardware shop couldn't find anything wrong with the hardware so told me to format and reinstall windows. This didn't help, which makes me think it is a hardware problem. But I am at a loss and don't have the money to send it to get fixed (the guy said he could 'try' a new mainboard and see if it helped! ha!)

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have a suggestion on how to find the problem?? Cheers!

highly unlikely to be cpu issue

most likely problem is software, perhaps a piece of software you keep installing is causing the issue? if you do a clean install does it start crashing straight away of only after you bring on your software.

The next in line would be ram failure, run memtest to check for errors

I have tried changing the ram chips, but still crashes... and yeah, it still crashes after a clean install, so i have no idea what is wrong with it.

After realising that it usually crashes with windows media player running, i tried winamp instead but it still crashed.

any other suggestions? please??!

may be an overheating issue. Playing videos do require a bit of processing, so there may be an issue with your processor overheating.

it happens even when media player isnt being used now - all i was doing the other day was reading some lecture notes for my exams!

this is getting frustrating... i have no idea what the problem is.
