Compatible yes! Worhth the trouble? Not with the complaints heard on Hitachi apparently by several already. Plus you are now going $17- higher over the WD 60gb model posted above. Save on cash and put a better drive in at the same time! Then if you plan to sell or give the portable away as a gift you won't hear complaints about the drive later.

but it wasn't in stock so i was just trying to find something i could get in by the end of the week.

Both are standard laptop drives. But the Seagate despite the only 8m cache would be the one most would choose out of thpse two. neweeg also had 3 WD models seen for the same price at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...50001306+1035507777+4026&name=Western+Digital

Looks like a good choice here. Of course since I've been using WD drives for the longest time I guess I have a preference for them.
