beginner video editing

I am interested in learning video editing, mainly to create a short film as a tribute to a young girl age 7 who recently passed away down the street. what software would be good and easy to learn? I understand that video editing takes a lot of patience and is very complex, but are there any softwares geared towards beginners that have a few built in fading effects, etc etc? your help is appreciated.

ummm......video editing. I have a dazzle that comes with software for basic editing. ive only imported and pretty much cut out sections using the program that came with it. Im now curious myself what else is out there.

I edit on mac using final cut pro. If youre on a mac, start using iMovie to get the basic feel of video editing. Then move up to final cut express and unless youre really doing advanced stuff, you could stick with final cut express. Otherwise the next upgrade would be to Final Cut Pro

On PC ive heard good things about avid and pinacle

Windows Movie Maker(WMM) is pretty easy .. have not edited much on it so don't really know much but can definitely ask u to check it out if u want to add different clips together or break a big clip... i have done that on WMM n its pretty easy .. i think it came pre installed with XP so I guess even u might have it.. good luck!

X2. Very simple, and if you don't have it, download it from microsoft.com

Yeah, ive never used WMV. Ive seen some nice things made with it but ive also heard it has ocassional problems exporting. IDK i have no experience with it.
